What's on your workbench? (no Star Wars, Marvel or DC stuff)

Re: What's on your workbench?

Hey Michael

Nice "random" arrangement of smaller parts around the cutting mat ;)
Oh...and the blasters are nice as well :lol

To archieve a realistic "workbench-look", you´d have to add paint and resin-drips to your desk, sanding dust and various tools just as files, screwdrivers, used paper towels, sanding paper strips, various boxes, paint-cans...and on TOP of this pile the actual prop(s) you´re working on!!!

WAIT, I think I just described MY mess :lol
Think I´ll post a pic later tonight.

That sounds as if i would never have paintsplotches, resindrips, sanding dust or the other stuff. :confused

I do, really - i just clean my bench every few days, otherwise i wouldn´t find anything anymore. :rolleyes

Just this morning i cleaned it up, so these are actual shots:

My main workplace for next to everything, from scratching and glueing modelkits to assembling props
Workbench002.jpg

this place is most of the time used as a kind of universal storage - parts, tools, blueprints, ....
Workbench003.jpg

Next the workplace for the more dirty stuff, as sawing and filing metal
Workbench004.jpg

(The big parcel is yours, your parts are ready :love)

Then the storage for parts and in-progress blasters/props
Workbench005.jpg

Here we have the paint area - look, paintsplotches :)
Workbench006.jpg

And last, the area where i do resincasting/moldmaking, and flat sanding. The big 12mm security glass-slab is perfect for such work
Workbench007.jpg

As i said, i just cleaned it. Usually it´s a little bit more messy (OK, not that much more, but more). ;):D

The machine room is more dirty :cry

I cleaned it too, to be prepared if i buy the new lathe this weekend, to be ready to set it up - and then this stupid me decided to put a arbor saw in the mill, to saw some alu blocks for making GK-grills. Welllllllll, to saw alu you need to use lubrication/cooling ...... on a rotating tool ..... :behave

Oh, to have a workshop that looks so clean! Most of the time, I have to shove crap out of the way on my bench to take progress shots. This is one of the "cleaner" shots of my work area, and a WoW commission I'm currently working on.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Love the paint booth. Can you explain the construction? Can you show an image of what it looks like when you're actually painting? I assume another side gets added somehow.

Thanks. :lol

Re: What's on your workbench?

What is that ship you're building? That looks awesome!

Thanks, it´s a "Corellian Engineering Corporation Transport YZ-775", in 1/72 (for my diorama).
I stopped working on it when my interest changed from modelling to prop-making - one day i will work on it again, then i first will make a new cockpit.

I have not much pics of it - this is from a earlier stage, but bigger.

There is not much to explain, it´s just a box with a open front. The top and the sides got these plexi insets for max light, and on the rear is one of these cheap cooker hoods from the home depot. It´s filter material collects the paint particels, and the smelly air with solvents is ventilated outside.

I sit on my chair in front of it, and my forearms rest on it´s edge. Please notice that the upper level is higher than all the standard benches around, resting the forearms on it´s edge helps me to keep the airbrush more stable when doing small stuff. And cause i paint away from me, the paintdust is blown automatic directly to the filter, where it is sucked up.

This works for the airbrush - i do not recommend to use a rattle can.

I have no dust problem, cause i keep my shop pretty tidy - but if dust is a concern, just install a sort of curtain on the upper frontedge. That way you can open or close it, whatever is needed.

:)

Re: What's on your workbench?

Here's the latest project on my workbench, a Warhammer 40k Bolt Pistol!
I still have to add a bunch of details to it and finish that barrel, but the main build is almost done now. Another couple of days and it'll be ready for paint :)

Re: What's on your workbench?

WONDERFUL Matt!!!
Do you give your guns a base coat of silver???

And with regards to the actual thread...here´s my workshop/ workbench.
As you can see it´s cluttered as hell currently, but you might be able to spot a thing or two ;)

Getting ready to start a new sword display project to compliment my current Blood Katanas display we have in the dining room (how appropriate). This one will be with the United Cutlery Samurai 3000 Katana, Samurai 3000 Tanto, and Samurai Ninja 3000. The swords are unique as they project futuristic weapons for future assassins. The Tanto is the rarest of the three swords. (UC1260). I just happened to find one in a sword shop earlier in the week. This completes my set.

Blood Katanas Display - Kinda hard to see in the pic but the swords have blood red areas in the hilt and scarabs.

I'm insanely impressed with everyone here! I hope one day I can be half as good!

As for me, I just finished my pulse rifle, gave it a weathered look, but I'm not 100% happy with the shade of green on the shroud, but it'll do for Halloween. Also still need to figure out the sling and the counter.
CIMG2134.jpg

Duffel bag sling makes a good PR sling in a pinch, and provided how well your gun is put together simple eye bolts front and rear for sling loops.

The color may be off as you say but I kind of like it. :)

Simple 2 digit "95" counters can be found pretty easily.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Nice job, my PR has a "different" colour as well, have grown to love it, in a pinch you can print the counter out and stick it on.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Wish I had a work bench.LOL I'm stuck in a corner of my girlfriends apartment.and this cylon wants to run away. which is never in a cylons programming.....
