Whatever, he wants to keep it simple to keep the budget low ....... so many extra wishes are just not doable.

The renders are looking great!!
It's quickly becoming my favourite version of Luke's saber - surprising, considering that I wasn't a big fan of the Hero prop, but loved the V2 - and now my favourite version is actually a combination of the two, with an additional nod to Obi-Wan's saber in the modified emitter.

My initial revulsion to the TFA emitter holes is gone. I really dig this now :lol
Dan, I think the front recess is not that deep at all. I still think it's the same level as the outer surface. In the image you see the reflection of the front nipple in the recessed surface.

This is what I see as well.
I think it's a reflection, not worn paint.
Definitely a reflection. And to me the darker area around the nipple looks polished which is why it is reflecting the nipple, and it looks dark because it's also reflecting the dark tabletop.

Just wondering how deep you made the recessed area as I found that 3mm looked right (after a few trial and error renders myself) --
I agree. Just not seeing that deep of a recess, and think the bottom of the recess is on the same plane as the emitter face. And just for kicks and giggles, would you want to see what a ring of holes that is slightly angled inwards looks like in a render as well?
Well the good news is we can always fill/build up the area around the nipple to make the hole shallower should Dan's latest render have the hole more recessed than some of us believe correct. It would be much harder to gouge out more material should we find that it is in fact more recessed than he initially makes it.
