Well, it looks like they made an updated version of Luke's ROTJ saber for TFA...

And if I may ask, which dimensions for the main body are you using: those of the slightly smaller hero/yuma saber, or the V2? Are we assuming, that since it has a control box as opposed to a clamp, that it must be based more closely on the hero/yuma dimensions?

Still wondering this...

I think that's the black boxes (which look to be in line with the larger triangle "leds") sticking out and catching a reflection.

I have to agree with you, I think it's a shadow/reflection of the black button

Hey guys. Do you think that they changed the saber for episode 8? I mean I feel like they just wanted to make a quick one for the film since we don't even see the thing. I'm still hoping for a V2 stunt

So by way of passing the time, any theories on how the copper colored rails on the box/by the clamp card were constructed/assembled?

New Luke saber? Dan involved? Sign me up! Yeah I'm signed up on Nicksdad's Luke Hero but Dan if you announced a ISYCANL I'd sign up for yours too. One cannot have too many Luke lightsabers.

I recorded the "Inside the Armory" vid to my HD using screen capture software and the pic below is the best I can get of the new Luke RotJ lightsaber. It's taken from 1920x1080 Lagarith (lossless) video and has not been resized, only cropped. I hope it helps.

You have to click on it and then in the window that appears, click on it again to view it at it's full size.

Now I'm convinced that the control box is symmetrical; I think the one side looking a bit longer is an optical illusion. Also, it looks like the copper on the neck is some kind of splotchy lacquer on top of the aluminum as opposed to being made from copper. The arrows and black box greeblies are centered and inline with each other. I can't detect any evidence of there being any flathead (or otherwise) screws under the arrows, either.

Bravo sir!

Looks not like paint over aluminium to me. More like raw brass after some time of handling with bare and sometimes sweaty hands.
Some of my small ends of brass stock around my lathe looks close.

I think I'm more inclined to agree with this as well. It looks too close to a natural patina to me. I don't think it is paint.

That is a great addition to the RotJ Saber and I think that it gives the saber a more grab whatever is handy repaired kinda of look.

It also doesn't take long to make the modifications needed to the existing RotJ Saber 3D model. Here is an example of a mod I did to my 3D Model.

So, Anakin Starkiller your model looks fantastic and I hope that all goes well with your run. I can't wait to see some of the finished results.

Later
