Watchmen (HBO TV series)

But, for anyone with concerns of "having no plan" or being stuck on a huge cliff hangar with no resolution... it appears this season was intended to be a stand-alone self-contained story

And according to this article, there are so far no plans for a second season of Watchmen

‘I think there’s a fair amount of hubris in planning multiple seasons of a television show in this day and age’, Lindlof said. ‘Every single idea we had is represented in these nine episodes, there was no time where we were like, “Let’s save that for later.”
‘We wanted the audience to have a complete experience of a story with a beginning middle and end.

And here...Lindelof might not return if there is a season 2

Lindelof - “I felt that if these nine episodes end without feeling like we completed a story, in the same way that we feel that at the end of a season of Fargo or True Detective, you know, then it’s not really Watchmen. It’s just another continuing show where you have to come up with a cool cliffhanger for the finale.”

According to Kassell - “Seeing is believing, I guess. I feel like as a fan, I just can say I truly hope for more, and there’s undeniably more story that could be told. But this will be satisfying as a single season, too. "

Frankly that's how all seasons should be - contained within itself. Cliffhangers that wrap in in the following season are lazy and imply you have no faith people will return otherwise.

I am blown away.

That was, without a doubt, the single best episode of a TV show I’ve ever seen. There wasn’t a single aspect of it that wasn’t spectacular.

I don’t really even know what else to say...just...wow.

Did anyone else notice they released the first volume of the soundtrack as a 100% in-world album. Front back and inside, it appears to be an album called "The Book of Rorschach" by Sons of Pale Horse. Even the track titles sound like they could be on a death metal album.

I figured something had to be up since the video they were showing in earlier episodes of him seemed to be on a loop so it was pretty well telegraphed he was no longer there. Did not expect that however

As soon as they talked about him having no memories from before the accident I was like, uh oh...

Since they were running all the previous episodes back to back I was watching off and on. It's funny how many clues they actually gave for some of the reveals for anyone paying attention and now that you know what to look for.

Like Will's outfit for example. That should have told you who he was from the first time you saw him along with some other clues sprinkled about

Same with the Cal reveal. How else would Angela survive that 7th Cav attack on the White Night

They have done an amazing job at laying the groundwork and weaving together the various stories together with the original comics/characters

I've really enjoyed the show. I find it to be pretty similar to the comic, which is as high praise as you can get. And I'm glad to hear they are FINALLY writing seasons as self-contained tales. That's the way to do it, in my opinion. If there's no season 2....yeah, I'm fine with that. This isn't a story that needs to continue in perpetuity.

Finally caught up to Ep 7 and am very impressed. Excellent overall, though it took a while to set the world-building pieces in place. Jean Smart is just as amazing as she was in Fargo S2.

The Podcast is great to listen to tho a bit rushed I think. It's 3 eps at a time and I'd prefer a longer unpacking of them -- especially the memory/true history of Hooded justice flashback, which was amazing.

Ok RPF people: who will be the first to replicate "That Prop" that Laurie had in her hotel room...? BTW "That Prop" Laurie had was called Excalibur - Ex Cal Abur. WHOA -- MIND BLOWN.

I executed that prop 35 minutes ago....

Been avoiding this thread because I plan to binge watch it when the season is over. How many episodes are left?
