Warehouse 13 - The Tesla Gun

Hi Ripstick,
There were a few different versions of the Tesla.... they were metal or pastic and metal... or primarily plastic. Each had different tubes that were used. The tubes I used were used at one time throughout the seasons. I picked out the best ones form the different Teslas from season 1 and 2 and when I built the heros for season 3, I stuck with them. So, the tubes I used were used in all the Teslas at one point on the show.

I was at ComicCon (first time) this past weekend and saw the Quantum Mechanix Tesla Gun up close and personal. It was beautiful...but then I looked down and saw the $1,195 price tag. I think I'll stick with the garage kit I am working on. My son's college fund will appreciate it. I still hold out hope that there will be a better garage kit at some time, too.

Hi Kenny

Thanks for dropping in and lending what wisdom you can to our efforts. I'm under a few NDA's for various things and know what a pain it is to want to talk about something but have to remain silent.

In your opinion, are the tubes mentioned by Ripstick a visually acceptable stand in for the actual tubes used?

Main Tube : PL500 or PL504
Rear Fat Tube : 8B10
Rear Thin Tube : 5JK6 (I think he mentioned this one on another page)

I'm guessing the NDA you're under would also prevent you from confirming if we did guess the correct tubes.

Thx again :)

Hi scifidelity,
I mean you could use those... visually they could work. Without them in front of me, I couldn't confirm size though. The 500 and 504 are pretty close to each other so either one of those two. To be honest, if you got as close to the size as you can, you would be good. I say that because there's literally hundreds of thousands of tubes out there. I think if you guys build your own Tesla, whatever you put in it would be great because it makes it your own version.

As for the NDAs? You are correct.... they can be a pain sometimes. I mean, I love what I do and I love talking with the fans at shows etc. I really want to just start a build thread but man would the studio have a field day. lol

Hi Kenney,

It's greatly appreciated that you've shared with us what you have. I figured the Tesla underwent fixes, replacement, changes, and what-have-you throughout the course of either Season 1 or 2, but my attempt at identifying the original vacuum tubes was based strictly on only a handful of clear 'prop photos' that I had ever seen (not including screengrabs) of an apparently early 'glass tube' version. It's funny, but only now am I recognizing the long thin tube detail in some screengrabs from Season 2 that look just like the tube in the QMx Tesla photos. :$

Much like the different versions of E-11 Stormtrooper blasters that were used on the set of Star Wars, I'm sure WH-13 geeks (like us) will try and identify every 'different' Tesla gun used, the episode it appeared, and in which scene. I've already seen it starting to happen with the Farnsworth vaudio device. It's sad really. :p

The funny thing about making a jig like that is that unless you know exactly how long your main tube is, how long the cylinder is, and how thick your washers are...

...well, you know. ;)

He is NOT kidding. After almost three entire days of vacuum tube research, I realized I was completely sick and tired of looking at countless tubes -- all different, yet the same. Find something close, find something cool, build something cool.

I really want to just start a build thread but man would the studio have a field day. lol
Give it a few years, and someone will call you up to submit this info as part of the Warehouse 13 "Official Companion" book. I'm already signed up on Amazon to pre-order it. ;)

Hi Ripstick.....

A WH13 Companion book? That's actually not a bad idea. All I know is that book will be huge. When I was on set, they had a ton of interesting and beautiful props. Some of these prop guys they got working for them are truly talented. If they do a book, I'll definietly get one.

Well guys.... a close of another day. I'm off to bed. Have to get up early tomorrow.... got a meeting in NY so I won't be on for most of the day. I'll jump on tomorrow night and say hello.

Finally after all this time some progress, but I still need some tweaking.
@ Scifideity...I don't one, just trial and error...I get maybe an hour every couple of days to do this.

I had thought about doing something like this a while ago as it wouldn't have had to be correct but a custom job. I have a whole pile of smaller tubes due to my ongoing search for the big Tesla tubes. Was planning on a custom base but using the same grips as on the B5 PPG. Bugger now it will have to be right.

Ok that little Tesla gun is awesome!!!

Hey the face on that little dial on the handle is the face plate of a bicycle tire pump gauge isn't it :lol.

I would if I could find it in my book marks again, it seems to be alluding me at the moment.

A simple Google search of warehouse 13 props will bring it up along with tons of RPF posts.
