Warehouse 13 - The Tesla Gun

Finally got onto their site. They have some nice stuff. Most of the prices aren't bad and for those that are out of my price range, the e-layaway plan is at least an option.

Not sure I can convince the wife that having a tesla replica is THAT important.

It is expensive but lets face it, this is exactly what we are always asking for (but just not willing to pay for). :lol:lol:lol

This is the same guy that made it for the show using the same patterns and same materials. This would be like going back to 77 and having someone cast you up a fully complete Vader helmet that you could wear home while they were making the screen used helmets.

And yet..if they COULD, they would complain there were BRUSH MARKS in the Paint on the VADER MASK.

'No disrespect to Kenney's work, but this prop is static prop (what QMX wanted) and is way over-priced considering how far some people in this thread have gone with their builds to get near same results. "

STATIC??
It's an exact copy of the HERO prop, because, its the same one they are using for filming, as the HERO.

You mean it DOESNT LIGHT UP? You do realize, the HERO prop doesnt light up either....right?
(POST PRODUCTION)
Sorry, Im trying to decipher your logic. Maybe I misunderstood you.

As far as price, 1200 Bucks. Not cheap, agree, but, not a COPY of a hero prop, a prop MADE for a show, and the same guy making them FOR the show, is supplying them, to a REPLICA COMPANY for availability to you.

And, you complain?
Really?

Maybe Im getting old. However, to me that's like saying:
"Ok...the PROP MASTER for LUCASFILM made some extra light sabers, but that SOB wants 1200 bucks a pop, I mean, COME ON IT'S just a GRAFLEX..."

Im not comparing W13 to STAR WARS, but ya get my point,

and..for those of you who are not familiar with the REPLICA BIZ,

1200 retail, means if its going though a distributor, the distributor is paying probably 750 for each (figure about 40% markup) , which means the manufacturer, (KENNY? I thought they killed him?? ) is getting what? 500? (which for that quality, he got screwed, but thats another discussion) for roughly same markup %?

Now if QMX isnt using a Distributor, then, yeah its alot of PROFIT for them..., assuming all else equal. However, I have no idea what it cost to make them.
And...we do live in a Capitalist society where we all BUY stuff made by people
who are paid in rice.

BUT... seeing as they are ACTUALLY being produced, I hope they had enough sense to take care of the manufacturer as he appears to have really come though for them as it is a gorgeous prop.

I hope they do well with it.
Maybe someday Ill actually WATCH the show, and get a "prop woody" and buy one.

I love the show and I like the prop a lot. I also think what Kenney and QMx have done with the replicas is fantastic but again it comes down to what I can afford and I just cannot spend $1200 on something like this. I'm sure I am not in a minority here. $400 for the Farnsworth is pushing it. I wonder what the little feature is that was left in the Tesla for the fans.

No $1200 to QMx now and no $1500 to anyone ever for this. If someone further down the track wants to offload his for $600 then absolutey.

I'm curious to see how the speculators and hoarders react. This is the solar opposite of what happen the Matty PKE meter. $1200 now to QMX or $1500 to some hustler on the Bay (Reserve Not Met).

It's a shame Kenny can't chime in here, his imput alone is worth following. The chance to even 'buy' a prop of this caliber doesn't come up often, and I've seen far more $$$ spent on fan made copies! I'll keep building mine, and still be dang happy to have one when it's done.

It's the same as when the Farnsworth first came out.
A LOT of people said it was too expensive.

I don't think people are questioning the worth, it's mostly the price. It's like buying Signed First Editions of books. There's a LOT of intrinsic value there that the vast majority of people don't find value compared to their income.

Hi PeterLC,
Thanks man...... Maybe I can keep from getting in trouble this time. BUT, I'm like Lt. Aldo Raine from Inglourious Basterds.... I've been chewed out before. LOL

Hopefully that is just the pieces that they had with them at SDCC right???
I am going to cry if I missed the Farnsworth again :cry:cry:cry

I am signed up for the fan club or whatever and everything, where is my notification of this :lol:lol:lol:lol

Greetings everyone.

I discovered therpf.com last year when I was contemplating making my own Tesla then heard of QMx doing one so I decided to wait. The SDCC announcement of the $1200 Tesla pricetag has rekindled my desire to make one myself. I gladly paid $300 for my Farnsworth at DragonCon last year (then got Eddie McClintock and Saul Rubinek to sign it) but $1200 is a bit pricey for a prop of that size. I agree with PeterLC, ~$600 would be the upper threshold of reasonable.

I've reread through this thread and have tracked down the Main Tube (42KN6 RCA Top Getter NOS) and the short fat Rear Tube (Sylvania 6JF6 Amp TV Vacuum Tube NOVAR NOS) but I am either overlooking or can't find the part number or type for the longer thinner Rear Tube. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Wow.

It looks like I've been missing out on some cool updates here, at least since last March.

Hey Timelordd -- VERY NICE WORK! I absolutely love the clean and precise look of lathed/milled parts. ;)

I've reread through this thread and have tracked down the Main Tube (42KN6 RCA Top Getter NOS) and the short fat Rear Tube (Sylvania 6JF6 Amp TV Vacuum Tube NOVAR NOS)...
The 42KN6 is a 12-pin tube and is too large for use with a 'screen accurate' Telsa build. What you seek is a 10-pin PL500 or PL504 tube.

The 6JF6A is not a correct match either, again, for a 'screen accurate' Tesla build. The 8B10 definitely appears to be a much better match for the short fat tube in the rear.

As far as the long thin tube in back, man... I've literally found hundreds of similar tubes but nothing that is a dead-on match. At this point, I think 'close' will be good enough. Also, it seems as though the QMx version uses a different tube (or rather, tube 'guts') for that one than what had previously been used in Season 1 & 2 Tesla guns.
