Warehouse 13 - The Tesla Gun

Well, the preview photos of QMx's Tesla look great. Very detailed work but I don't think anyone doubted that would be the case. Now all we need is a release date and a reasonable price.

Yeah, I'm so glad there are more and more prop replicas out there, and more and more of them made by the folks that made the originals. They end up being true, limited Editions, of true works of art.

Yeah, that's great for people with lots, and lots of money......Um......witch is who now-a-days? I guess if you don't like your kids very much......

Don't get me wrong, I really do think it's great. I just miss the days, when it was all underground, and much more affordable. Heck, I miss the days, of reasonable priced "toy" props, that were mass produced, and not so accurate, but I could actually own one.

With the exception of a few very nice pieces, most of my Star Trek "prop" collection is made up of "Playmates" and "Diamond/Art asylum" toy props. :lol I love them, because I get something fun, that captures the over all look and spirit of the prop, but I can afford it, and I can actually handle it, and play with it, and I don't care if other people handle it, and play with it. (Um, I am still talking about props here people :) )

Most ST prop guys think that there is no such thing as a cheep Trek prop. It's either very expensive, or it's junk. I've NEVER been impressed by the money someone spends on something, unless it's how little they spent on it. I've had women tell me "I spend $1,000 on this purse" to witch I say "WOW, and it holds the same stuff, only less of it, then those you see at Wal*mart, or the thrift store, for less then $10?"

I truly love that there are high end items, but I wish there were a lot more low end ones too. I know that QMx has talked about doing both a high end version ,and lower end version of a lot of their items, but their "low end" tends to still be on the "high end" for me. I mean, their resin stunt Mal pistol was actually very reasonable priced for a finished props, but I still have yet to get one. (that's not there falt at all. It's just every time I think of getting one, I remember I have "a powerful need to eat some time that month." )

So I really do hope this thread continues to move forward, so falks like me can, maybe have a chance of making/owning one of these beautiful props one of these days. And I really am happy about the QMx version for 2 reason. 1) just because it's a very nice prop, that will be constructed by it's original builder. and 2) I just know some fine, rich, person here (that may not be so good with money) will buy one, and post tons of pics, and info about all the parts, alowing the rest of us the option of saving our money, and making our own. :)

I'm sure the thread will be around for some time. Not everyone can afford to buy props and not everyone wants to buy them completed. Finding parts and fabricating parts is the basis of the RPF but as we now know there just aren't any found parts for this one except the exact tubes and the knob. Not everyone has the ability or the resources to fabricate stuff either. Making one's own replicas and finishing/upgrading kits is great fun but sometimes when a truly accurate and beautiful copy comes along and one has the funds, it'd be a shame not to buy it.

Yep Tesla is $1200 and the Farnsworth is $400. The Tesla is nice but that is madness.

Are you sure they have not missed out a decimal point ? :)

That does not seem a realistic price for this type of prop but I'm sure they will still sell out.

Hey, here's hoping that they sell a half-dozen Teslas and have to unload the rest at drastically reduces prices just to get rid of them. Though, honestly, it seems a bit steep even at half price.

Yeah, how dare they make a profit and land such an intricate, well made prop!

What a low-rent comment.

A few of you guys need to show a little respect for the effort that goes into fabricating these pieces. Too rich for your blood? Fine, vote with your wallet and don't buy it. But, to tear the product/company down because it's out of your budget and/or beyond your ability to make it yourself...that's just prickish!

Woah, fella!

It was a tongue-in-cheek comment that was basically "I hope the price comes down so those of us who work for a living can one day afford it."
No one here actually wishes anyone anything but success. It is a beautiful prop, but it's not in the budget for most people. (It's about 2 and a half months rent for me!) No one is tearing them down... it's just a VERY high price... more than double what most of us were expecting, even at the high end of our estimates.

It is expensive but lets face it, this is exactly what we are always asking for (but just not willing to pay for). :lol:lol:lol

This is the same guy that made it for the show using the same patterns and same materials. This would be like going back to 77 and having someone cast you up a fully complete Vader helmet that you could wear home while they were making the screen used helmets.

No argument here, as far as the quality goes. Hell, I would fully pay up that amount if I could afford it, but it's just shy of what I make per month (after taxes). 1/12 of my annual income would be a bit much for my total annual prop outlay, let alone a single prop. But it certainly is beautiful.

That's not..... entirely true. I kinda wish James Cameron, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Will Smith would get out of the movie business and maybe settle down, out of the way, with the millions they already have.

Other than that, I'd go along with the above statement. =)

No arguments here about the quality as Kenney did a fantastic job on them but the price is way out of the league of most of us. So back to the drawing board again.

I don't think I am going to be able to swing one either. I am going to get one of the Farnsworths though.

I don't know, DiCaprio did pretty good in shutter island.

As much as I have balked at the price of this, can I just say that the eLayaway plan seems quite a nice idea for them to implement? Sure, it's still about $100 a month for a full year... but if someone loves the prop that much, it at least makes it somewhat accessible.

I'm curious to see how the speculators and hoarders react. This is the solar opposite of what happen the Matty PKE meter. $1200 now to QMX or $1500 to some hustler on the Bay (Reserve Not Met).

Respectfully, I understand Rylo's comments, but I'm surprised HE made them. Rylo has always set the bar pretty high and produced working props better than what was used in the actual production. Both "In The Line Of Fire" assassin pistol and the Sandman gun are phenomenal! I'd have no problem giving an "Above and Beyonder" like Rylo $1200 because you know it's going to be better than the production-used prop and functional.
I'll take sound and working electronics over the hand-rubbed zebrawood base and elegant display stand any day.

No disrespect to Kenney's work, but this prop is static prop (what QMX wanted) and is way over-priced considering how far some people in this thread have gone with their builds to get near same results.

I wish I could get onto the site to see it. Not sure if it's ovewhelmed or what, but I can't seem to get on the site currently.
