My Custom Scratchbuilt Star Wars Ship: the Arapaima

That is looking great!
The wonderful thing about concept art, is that you can use what you like, and make up the rest.
I really like the layering of your paneling. Your multi-level look is fantastic.
Thank you! I am definitely making things up 90% of the time on this. I am also becoming more and more pleased with the layering as I go along. Leaning into the spirit of Y-wings, Nebulon-Bs, Rebel transport, etc.

I know I am in a small crowd that sees Lego as SW Universe but having kids, during the crucial beginning years of crossover from movie to toy and back to movie of toy, makes me think lego storyline. This idea of what works, works, is the reality of such a far flung society. The kitbash is what junkyards across the galaxy would actually do. It is the entire birthplace of pod racing, land speeder racing, smuggling, junk collectors, most of the rebellions ships, on and on. I think it is one of the coolest, completely coincidental-became-logical, hobbies that spawned from Star Wars.

Definitely agree! The junkyard bashing plus the paint jobs ILM gave them of grime and haphazardness are what make it relatable!

Another update! Kinda shocked anyone has taken a liking to this ship, but that, plus the new season of Andor, has given me some motivation to plug along! (For reference, the first season of Andor is what propelled me to even start this thing. So that’s the timeline of this haha)

Today after a final law school exam, to decompress I plugged in a bunch of piping, panels, and greebles on the underside of the Arapaima. I used some spare parts from new windows we put in our basement as recessed cavities on the ship, where I have placed a few cargo boxes. That big red thing in the middle is the top of a cosplay Boba Fett gauntlet- I liked the recessed areas of it that let me drop in a spare heat sink that didn’t turn out good enough for the B-wing I’m making at that same time as this. Overall really liking the sleek form of the ship, but undecided if I want to break it up with some auto turret or something. Construction just free flows as I dig through greeble bins!
