Alright, well, at least we have an accurate BnL logo to work with. If Great Bizzaro is willing to offer his services for this, then we should start to determine it's accurate color. Whether or not you want to make a "brand new" verison, or the 700 year old version.

The logo is great, I am just wondering about the finish of the logo. I think it looks blasted or etched, just don't want to gear up for that and have it be a color in it. I can do either just want to get it right to start with. I can get Zippos or the cheapos with most of the difference being the guts. Are these going to be used or for display only?

Well, I have a blank zippo as I pictured, I would certainly still use it. Man, only if the DVD came out, we could grab screens in Hi Res.

Im pretty sure that the zippos are more accurate in comparison, they have the same guts as in the movie.

What would be the costs of getting it blasted, etched and colored?

I was looking for blanks and find a Satin Chrome & a Street Chrome, any idea which is the correct finish? I can do either an etched or a color imprint but not both on the same lighter.

I just came back, I saw the movie again. I noticed the finish now, there is no color! The BnL logo is actually chromed, while the rest of it is same dulled metal look, just like my zippo.

The actual letters are left the dulled metal look, but the surrounding parts of the logo is chrome.



And anyone who still is into the story, the lighter is symbolic of their love for each other, the "fire" that keeps it going. You also notice its the only piece that they carried around. For a small item, its a significant thing

You could take it to a laser etching service and have it done.
They can etche anything.

Anyone have any close connections or know anyone who can do this? Its just the legal issue that prevents us from using a company or service

id go with the one that looks scratched, i think its street chrome, so it would already be partially weathered.

Yea, its a toss up between the satin and street chrome. If I had to choose, I think I would choose the satin. Its hard to explain, i'll do a quick MS paint...

Why not just get a chromed zippo, cover the chromed areas and sand blast the rest of the lighter.

In the 1st photo the area you have marked chrome looks to be the area that is sand blasted. I don't know if it is reflecting something else but it doesn't look to be or it would be less uniform in color.
I will go to wall-e-world (hum I wonder) asap and pick up a couple of lighters to try different finishes on.
Here is a tin I cut some "sandblast glass" finish vinyl and stuck it on. It is a clear vinyl that looks sandblasted

Yea, thats how I remember it exactly looking in the movie. Just leave the satin parts satin, everything else is supposed to be a shiny chrome.

Im not really familiar with the techniques of sandblasting as far as finishes are concerned.

The background will stay the stock finish, the blasted area will look a dull satin. I have to grab a few sample lighters to make sure I can get this look using blasting as it might be a chrome plating over a brass or some other metal and that wouldn't work.

lol, I just wanted to make sure. That looks very good then, very clean and sharp looking. Im anxious to see what you will come up with after you go to wall-E mart (pun intended)

so thats not actually etched, thats a vinyl sticker correct?
