Holy cow...those are some sick costumes of both venom and carnage. Kudos to you and your unbelievable skills mikefu.....I simply have no words.
On this thread there are now two people who baffled and played with my mind through their creations and have now made me eager to start a new project (of uncharted territory xD). Lunaman has made me start working on an ultimate spiderman and you mikefu have inspired me to start working on my own carnage and eventually venom. After all this I have a question mikefu.....I live in Malta a place were some products are not available here since it is a small island and everything is imported according to need and good clays for making the mask are not found. This is my question......do you know if polymer clay is good for working on making a sculpture for carnage head? What material have you found suitable for then making the mould out of the sculpture? I am still doing research atm but I am totally new to moulding and casting and there are a lot of products and materials being sold for that purpose and I am getting confused.
Thanks for your help,
czar0004
thank you very much. this thread has inspired me as well and its guys like lunaman and others as well as yourself through comments and encouragement that makes me want to do better....the whole point of this site ...i havent been doing this long(costuming) but i ve been an artist my whole life and it all about adaptive , and relatable skills.. theres alot of info thanks to internet so you dont have to look far.
I come from a small island as well Newfoundland off the east coast of Canada and from small village there so using available stuff is what i know and theres always
different solutions.
what i use now is monster maker clay . its nice and holds alot of detail. but use what you can get ...just read up on them so you dont mistreat them. oil based clays are easy but make cost a little more. water based are fine and you can play with consistency(with water0 make slip etc and get some great detail. you can fire it in a homemade kilm as well. whatever you have access to will be fine. ploymer clay is great stuff but may be expensive for you to get in any quantity..i used it for venoms teeth .
i cast in rubber...because i want to reproduce them. if you just want one good copy for yourself you can use other stuff...plaster of paris, clay, plaster bandage, , even paper mache. rubber is nice because its tough , can get great reproductions and more pulls from them. and you can have undercuts in your sculptures with out problems .it doesnt stick to much so you dont need mold release.back it with plaster bandage. i find this works best ..easy to use and convenient.
theres alot of products and can be confusing but what will determine what you use is access, and need just get what you need to get job done at level you want.. youtube has vids for everything it indispensable.
dont break the bank and have fun
cheers
