Vash the Stampede

Which convention?

I've been loving this build so much and I'm very excited to see you finish it.

I'm going to guess MTAC, based on location and timeframe. Looking awesome so far. Good luck finishing!!

Yeah, it's MTAC.
To most people's chagrin and to my great joy, the theme this year is "MTAC In Love."
This con is made of love and peace.

I hope everyone appreciates the effort you put into this costume. If you enter the costume contest, write a link to this thread to the entry form. It should blow the judges mind.

That's how I won my last contest :3

Just echoing everyone else's sentiments here, but seriously impressive work, MrGreene. I love builds like these where it's apparent that passion is the driving force and that any obstacle can be overcome by sheer determination and thinking outside of the box. I'm not saying making boots from scratch is easy or anything, but as evidenced here, it's certainly quite possible if/when you want it bad enough. You just gotta be crazy enough to commit!

We are lucky to live in an age where a DIY or walkthrough (often with pretty pictures!) for just about anything you want to do in this kind of hobby (conceptually, at least) is just a few clicks away. However, you gotta want it! The very first paragraph of MrGreene's first post says it all.

Ok, I'm back from the con, and I can say without a doubt that it was absolutely worth every second of planning and building.
I was in such a hurry to get everything presentable that I didn't have time to take all the photos I wanted, but I somehow managed to weather the coat (with a meager arsenal of buckshot and .45 rounds), finish the gun prototype and holster, finish the undersuit body, and cut/style the wig, all before the con. I left off the right arm sleeve, since the cutouts require some sneaky engineering to maintain their shape, but for the trial run, everything turned out great.

I may not have gotten to take too many photos due to time restraints, but I hope the results so far speak for themselves :)

I still want to spend some more time on the wig, add some more weathering, and finish up a few tiny metal details, but that's something I'm going to take my sweet time with. I've got a few more surprises planned for next month :)

Absolutely amazing! Vash is one of my faves and I love what you've done here!

Edited because I forgot to say that I'm in awe of your wig-work.

you are awesome I love the steel hammering you have done. I make armor and I have always wanted to do a full copper steam punk armor you have given me inspiration.

here is my last armor .. Dragon scale maille

Holy geez! Everything turned out great! Down to the last detail! Not to mention you a the perfect body type for the character.
Bravo good Sir! Bravo!

That turned out absolutely amazing. Agree on all the details and the right body type/proportions. Wow.

I'm curious about how the boots held up at the con, since I've got a costume I'm going to attempt to make boots for. Your explanation of the steps you took is easier to follow than most other places I've sought info from, will be consulting this thread heavily when I get to that step...

The boots held up great. I did go ahead and re-glue the soles after the first day, since I didn't use enough glue the first time, but aside from that, they worked fine even after running around in dirt and rubble all day.

I have to preface this statement with the fact that I have no prior knowledge of, attachment to, or history of appreciation for this character. This is still absolutely one of the best costume projects I've seen. The sheer dedication is just dripping off of it every step of the way.

I love this. LOVE IT. Well done.

I was asking myself if someone who had no prior knowledge of this source material could appreciate the work put into this costume, and you totally answered my question.

I'm a huge fan of Vash the Stampede myself. Excellent job! I especially love the leather bodysuit thing and the wig.

This is stellar, the detail is amazing. You've also got the right body type to pull this off really well. Stunning work, congrats!
