Sooner than that, if we're lucky (Yes, I know about the date... I'm just hoping for a 3 month wait, like King Kong).

still touching it up a bit, waiting for someone to pop up with a change, cause im sure someone will once i post it, lol

Found a good idea for making it card like if you dont wanna glue it to a used card, get some laminating sheets from walmart and cut it trim to the edge, it makes it hard plastic like.

Fantastic, I was just about to ask you about that. I cant wait to see the pics.

So I started mocking up a doublet today.  Turns out it's pretty easy after mocking up 19th century women's clothes all semester.  Hopefully in the next few days I'll get some sleeves going on and can get some pics of my muslin up.

I made the first pull today off of the modified rubies sculpt, I threw a quick paint job on it, and here are the results. (please excuse the poor picture quality)

There were a few imperfections that became clear after the first pull, so the sculpt will be ammended.
The pics REALLY dont do it justice. I sat it next to my rubies here, and they look like distant cousins, almost completely different masks. Im amazed at how bowed out the rubies looks next to it.
Also, the quick paintjob doesnt allow you to see the alterations made to the mustache, (the curvature.)
I kept the non portruding gotee, any other option was impossible with vacuform, but it can definatley be extended on the individual pulls, after the fact.

I will try to take better pictures outside tomorrow, those really make it look strange.

lookin good nick. I think other than the goatee protrusion, it looks pretty right on. You said it could be added "after the fact". Are you thinking of sculpting it seperate?

Am I the only one who thinks it's a bit odd that some people get crucified for recasting an sw piece but when someone recasts a mask that is currently going into production no one says boo about it? I'm new to this forum and the last thing I'd want to do is ruin this thread and start a flame war, but does anyone else think its in bad taste to do this?

:rolleyes Here we go again.

OK, here's the thing. The mask that Rubies is going to be selling is not the mask that was recast above. The mask that was recast was a special mask that was HANDED OUT FOR FREE at the San Diego Comicon last year. It will not be sold on the market. Also, there have been changes made to the original mold. Therefor, it isn't wrong to make those masks.

Yes the mask that is being sold by rubies is the very same mask handed out at conventions and screenings. The promo shots on rubies website is probably what threw you off. You can make any reason for it being wrong on not wrong recasting is a grey area and morals are of course subjective. It's a very easy mask to sculpt, I just get why after putting work into altering it, you didn't just take the high route and make your own.

If you go back a certain ammount of pages, you'll see that we already had this argument, and nothing got settled then, either. Let's just stop this argument before it causes a flame war.

It's not huge, but it's a bit sharper then the one posted on the site.

Anyone doing EPS versions of the TV posters ?

I considered doing the same thing to my COMIC-CON mask, making modifications and all. I am not sure if ALL of these have been mentioned in the previous replys, but I'll repeat them anyway. These are the obvious differenves between the Rubies, and Movie mask that I am planning to modify on my rubies;

-The slit in the mouth is way too short on the Rubies
-The eyebrows are rounded off on the movie mask at the front, but the rubies are straight.
-The mustache on the Rubies is more "squared" or "angled" where the movie used one is more "rounded."
-The beard comes off of the mask about .5 -inch on the movie one, but not the Rubies.
-The nostrils are more detailed on the movie used mask.
-As for the paint, the eyeliner, needs to be closer to the eye slits on the rubies, it is WAY to spread apart.
-The creases in the face, caused by Guy's Grin need to be deeper cuts in the Rubies mask, they are to shallow and undefined.
-The overall width of the Rubies seems to be too wide.
-The side string attatchements need to be hidden and concealed.

I'm sure there are more things I didn't catch, I know there are more obvious things with the paint job, but I'm not going to mention all of them. And I am sure that most of the things I mentioned above have been noted already on this thread...well...too bad.

Oh and by the way, whoever shared these pictures, thanks. I hope you don't mind that I am using them, it's for a good cause. And to the owner of the Rubies mask, I am not picking on you, I have a Rubies V mask myself.
