V for Vendetta Daggers, what to use??? HELP!

What you could do...

If these are just gonna stay stuck on the belt...

You could try to vac-form a blade. Just end up with a slightly arched piece of plastic; affix them so the raised side is on the outside of the costume.

That doesn't solve the handle problems, though.

You ought to be able to make a 'braid' of thick sculpey for the handle, which you could then bake and mold and make resin dupes of...

Not sure if that's Darth Mule or not. But Darth Mule constructed hos own mockups from balsa and w3hat not and then cast them.

There's a good chance that we'll see some cheaper knockoffs of the daggers but probably not for a bit. I'll keep this thread upfated with my work on the Knight daggers.

Problem #1 is I bought 6 and recieved only one. I contacted the seller today to see if they were shipped separately or if a mistake was made. I don't want to modify the one I have until I know whether I have to return it or not.

Nope.. That isn't me, tho his daggers aren't bad either.

Glad you posted that comparison pic kylash. I was ready to pick up a windlass just to scavenge parts and update mine, but as it turns out mine are more accurate than the windlass. Odd. Especially since they were my first scratchmade replica prop piece. I'll take a close-up to post tomorrow evening. I just tried to click one but my camera is quite dead.

Darth Mule, I'd love to see some more pics of your daggers. As of now, I plan on buying a windlass, making the necessary modifications for a more accurate look, and casting 6 resin copies. It'd be nice to have all 6 in carbon steel, but I just can't justify nearly 600 bones for those knives. Did you ever put up a tutorial on how you did yours?

Well, I had to figure out how to edit my attachments so I could post new ones, but I finally figured it out. Here's a pic of my dagger. Note that it looks a bit rough because I sprayed them on the fly with 3 days to go till Dragon Con, so the finish is a bit rough. I also made a little oopsie in the casting that lead to a the detail under the guard being a little off. All things I will remedy in v.2.

Also, just for the record, I attached a pic of me at DC.

Here, hope this helps. After I get the master cleaned up, I plan on recasting these, and offering them on the board. I'll likely also offer the old set for fairly cheap for someone who doesn't mind the project of cleaning them up.

Hello everyone,

That is a picture of me at Dragon*Con. The daggers were bought on eBay, and I agree that most average folks won't notice that they are not an exact match to the screen used knives ( but close enough for government work .). Go to eBay item number 6628259828. Medieval Knights Dagger from Apex Resource Group. I paid about $111 shipped for a set of 6, $6.99 each. Yeah, I know, shipping was MORE than the stupid knives, but what are you gonna do ? I DID grind the CRAP out of them to dull them in attempt to make them more safe for costume wear / use, but you should STILL be extra careful with them. I didn't get a chance to see DarthMule's costume in person at Dragon*Con, but, the pics show his dilligence and care in his doublet and other detail. Wish I could find some of that EXPENSIVE fabric he lucked upon . I ran into a seamstress that has a source for a great V hat (custom made less than $100, she said), but she hasn't responded to my e-mail request for the source's name yet (I guess she is overwhelmed with Halloween work, right now) If she replies with details, I will post it here. Hope y'all have a good Halloween . Take Care .

Ok, like many im sure, im doing a V costume for Halloween, but Im stuck at the daggers. the rubies ones obviously are junk, the official release one isnt out, and would cost way too much for 6 of them, and I havent been able to find anything even close out there for existing knives and daggers. So Im curious what others are doing, i could do one from scratch, but dont have the time or cash to then mold it and make 6 of them. Help meeeeeee.

Windlass Steelcrafts has a "non-official" copy coming out in September called The Vigilante Dagger. Looks like a good copy as far as I can tell.

Though it suffers the same problem as the official release. They are anywhere from 70-90 dollars for one dagger. Making a set of 6 about 450-500 bucks. Windlass has to make everything in carbon steel I guess. Couldn't half-ass one for us cheapo V costumers.

I thought of buying one of those and casting it in resin. Not to sell, mind you, just for my costume.

For my V costume I bought 6 really cheap (like 9 bucks) daggers off eBay. Stainless blades, wire wrapped grips. Pretty cheesy stuff. But 6 were only like 70 bucks total. The crossgruards are wrong, the grips are silver, and they have a hand protection "ring" on the handle. But cut off the ring and modify the crossguards with a dremel and it could get pretty close. Only need to paint or rewrap the handle in black. But the blade length, shape and shape of the pommel are what I was looking for.

People tend to not totally remember what the daggers really looked like so, for this year, I am going with "close" instead of total accuracy in terms of the daggers. Maybe next year I can upgrade to something better.

Boo. eBay seller messed up again. Sent me not only the wrong amount (only 1 dagger again) but the wrong dagger. Keeps me from doing any work on the one I have since I don't know if I'll have to send them all back for a full refund in the near future or not.
