Ok, like many im sure, im doing a V costume for Halloween, but Im stuck at the daggers. the rubies ones obviously are junk, the official release one isnt out, and would cost way too much for 6 of them, and I havent been able to find anything even close out there for existing knives and daggers. So Im curious what others are doing, i could do one from scratch, but dont have the time or cash to then mold it and make 6 of them. Help meeeeeee.

I saw a cutlass/rapier with a very similar handle at one of those discount sword places. That would be a decent starting point.

Windlass Steelcrafts has a "non-official" copy coming out in September called The Vigilante Dagger. Looks like a good copy as far as I can tell.

Though it suffers the same problem as the official release. They are anywhere from 70-90 dollars for one dagger. Making a set of 6 about 450-500 bucks. Windlass has to make everything in carbon steel I guess. Couldn't half-ass one for us cheapo V costumers.

I thought of buying one of those and casting it in resin. Not to sell, mind you, just for my costume.

For my V costume I bought 6 really cheap (like 9 bucks) daggers off eBay. Stainless blades, wire wrapped grips. Pretty cheesy stuff. But 6 were only like 70 bucks total. The crossgruards are wrong, the grips are silver, and they have a hand protection "ring" on the handle. But cut off the ring and modify the crossguards with a dremel and it could get pretty close. Only need to paint or rewrap the handle in black. But the blade length, shape and shape of the pommel are what I was looking for.

People tend to not totally remember what the daggers really looked like so, for this year, I am going with "close" instead of total accuracy in terms of the daggers. Maybe next year I can upgrade to something better.

oooooo, that windlass one is nice, but yeah would be best co copy resin ones off that... hmm, wonder if an even cheaper knockoff may come out...probably not in time for Halloween though... ive thought of those Knight Daggers, but it seemed like too much modification for me to be happy with...there was a pic of a V from dragon con here that had some daggers that were almost the same but the cross guard was straight, anyone seen those?

Not sure if that's Darth Mule or not. But Darth Mule constructed hos own mockups from balsa and w3hat not and then cast them.

There's a good chance that we'll see some cheaper knockoffs of the daggers but probably not for a bit. I'll keep this thread upfated with my work on the Knight daggers.

Problem #1 is I bought 6 and recieved only one. I contacted the seller today to see if they were shipped separately or if a mistake was made. I don't want to modify the one I have until I know whether I have to return it or not.

Wow....that Windlass version is pretty darned close.

I've got one of the filming daggers here, and there are only subtle differences. Certainly nothing that anyone but the closest scrutinizers would ever notice.

What are "filming daggers" you speak of?

Wow. I wonder where that guy got his hat....
fortunatley, I thought up a way around making a hat...and the daggers...and even the cape...

I'm doing "breakfast V"
Should be pretty funny. (found VERY close matches for the apron material.)
Heres a cap from the movie:

Good news. Turns out the seller's shipping dept. got the amount wrong and they are shipping the other 5 daggers tomorrow. So I can start modding them.

well, here we are nearing the end of september, and i can't find jack on these windlass daggers. just sorted through their website with no luck. does anyone here have any info on when exactly they will be ready to order, and how to order them?

Well, knowing Windlass, it could be sometime next year before they actually come out. Their GI Joe swords were up as a coming item for a while before they were actually released. I did a search in Google for Vigilante Dagger and found some sites selling them. But I am guessing just as pre-sales.

If you're not going to take unsheathe them, you could simply do handles and scabbards. Just a thought.
[/b]

The problem with that is, V doesn't actually have the daggers in any kind of scabbard. They are held to his belt by metal loops.

**EDIT** I may have been wrong. Museum Replicas has the Vigilante Dagger up on their site for $85. Not listed as a pre-sale. Not sure if that's true or not. But it's there. Just search for "Vigilante."

oh yes ^^ thanks for all the help guys... seems like were getting closer at least, lol I just contacted Museum Replicas about theirs to see if its in stock, so we'll see. it says the handle is carved wood...shouldnt it be leather wrapped with the silver wire wrap? I suppose it could be done over the wood easily enough with a thin vinyl...

I think it's because it's not a licensed replica so they can't make it totally 100% accurate. But it's the closest thing out there right now. Until we see how the DC Direct one looks.

if i had a scanner i could get a pic of the DC direct one, Entertinment Earth sent me a catalog that had a great picture, different than the one on their website, so hopefully theyll update it. yeah, i just wasnt sure if id was supposed to just be a wood handle or not.

Yeah, not sure what the handles were made of on the prop from the movie. Only thing i've read was just about the costume designs.

also, correct me if im wrong, but are the blade tips in the movie blades actually somewhat rounded? That would be fairly easy to fix as well, and be more costume friendly.

yeah, definitely rounded for safety.

I have to round the point and edges of my cheap Knight Daggers a lot before I want to run around with them on my belt.

just been looking at the windlass dagger and did a little comparison chart pointing out the differences between the screen used dagger, and really they arent that bad, just the metal caps connecting to the handle and the number of sections in the handle, but again for the price, wont complain :p just info for those modifying later.
