Great work. That looks incredible. I was looking for reference pics online but nothing came close. This is unbelievable.

Is there anyway you might be able to post a copy without the aged paper background? So that it can be printed out with the border onto naturally aged paper. Thanks in advance.

I've just found this image in the blog of the artist that did it for the game, unfortunately there wasn't any other pages, but I think I saw some of the other artworks (Drake's sketches and annotations) somewhere else, as soon as I find them I'll post here
Then I still want to do the oil lamp and the dagger, I have enough references for both I think

There's a ton of 3D artwork in this thread.

Not something you'd need for the onscreen jounal - but if you want to do some made-up inserts for the book these images are pretty good.

Have any of you identified the coins on the opposite page with the oil lamp? They might be from Turkey?

EDIT: I've managed to identify two of the coins! they're both Turkish 10 Lira coins. The size is the same, just opposite sides of the same coin. If you're really anal, I think it's a 2007 coin, but it's hard to tell.

Awesome about the Lira.. that should help me accurize mine. Right now, I'm using some chinese coins I got at michaels :lol

I'm trying to find Dubloons like the one on the second page (or more specifically, from the first game) but haven't found any with the white-house looking building on them. I can find plenty with the correct back-side of the coin though.
I think I'm just gonna try to make one.

I found som easily on ebay. Didn't cost me more than 2 bucks. The last coin on that page confuses me though. I don't think it's Turkish. I've posted the pic on a facebook coincollector's group hoping they can identify it for us. I printed out my first two inserts yestday, the yeti page and the Istanbul Palace Museum rip. They came out very nice - I'll post them later.

It looks good enough for the moment, even with it's glaring inaccuracies.. if I can find something better/closer, I'll definitely switch it out.

I know - I was talking about the third coin the page with the other two Turkish coins. This one:

the one nearest to the spine.

But that's pretty nice work on the Spanish Dubloon!!! I was thinking about doing something similar, it's quite hard to get all the details with clay.

The dubloon was kinda tough lol I actually used styrene and superglue.. I just let it pool in areas and built them up in layers. Cheated a bit on some areas and made them recessed instead of raised. The letters are actually cut from a post-it note and superglued on.


As to the other coin, perhaps this image would help with that coin group.. (ignore the turkish one there )

"In trebizond we were set upon by theives, father, maffeo, and I were robbed of our greatest treasures... So that it should not fall into the wrong hands, I concealed my great sorrow in the unlikeliest place. The light of the Great Khan shelters the fate of the thirteen."


edit: Right, so here is MY attempt at reading it. Keep in mind my knowledge of Latin is minimal at best and some of the things I THINK I'm seeing, I may not be. Here goes. (line for line as in game)
"In Trebizondo sumus aglaironibu
impugnan. Illi quidem me Paoremque
Maffeo nemque gazis maximis exspoliarunt.
Ne in manus malas incideres (?) meum (?) dolorem
grandem in loro inexpectansomno condidi.

Nice - I tried reverse-enginering it... so I copy pasted Drake's translation into an English to Latin translator and this is what came out. I don't know squat about latin so I don't know if it's utterly gibberish. It seems to be quite different from what is written on the manuscript, quite possibly it's a major problem when translating backwards.

In trebizond nos erant paro super per suum , abbas maffeo , quod EGO erant vispilio of sicco maioribus thesaurus. Ut is should non decumbo nefas manuum , EGO occultus meus valde moestitia in unlikeliest locus. lux lucis of Valde Khan tectum fortuna of tredecim

It's probably safer to just guess what the manuscript says

yeah, I saw that last week on the Naughty Dog site (they had a link) to this

it has an interesting feature on there that lets you turn through the pages (though I doubt all of them).
I still petition Naughty Dog through facebook and their blog to release official versions of the journal and dubloon every chance I get.

While I'll keep mine, I'd still love an official one.

Okay, I've got some good news and bad news...

First the good news:

I've identified the last coin or rather the VERY cool guys over at collectors.com have. It's not a coin afterall - its a tram token! Istanbul tram token look here:

The bad news:

It seems the guys just painted it metallic for the book! Now how do we get a hold of that token? Ebay has nothing. Any Istanbul based members around? It would be very easy for somebody in Istanbul to pick up some of those.
