My 3mm chrome bezels finally came in today, so I had a chance to mock up the placement and generally see how they will fit. I think it will really add to the over all look of the front. I wiil be putting white 3mm LEDs in them as well.

I also added some internal magnets to the disc and "stuck" it to the back of the work bench. It really adds to the room :

You might also want to consider this guy from TI, complete with USB-stick dev kit for $20. I've just started toying with mine.Thanks, sorry, my apologies. My plan is to make mine functional as your initial one, and either I'm being lazy or hoping to find some form of instructions on piecing it together. I need to make my shopping list, and see if the local electronics place has the right LEDs.
May just try the Netduino mini route.
The Netduino mini needs a circuit board though, regular Netduino may be too large for the disc, I'm looking at this as an option for a microcontroller:
