Tron Legacy Costume

Well...

At the last minutes i had some tech difficulties and had to go with plan B... I think it was ok for just taking a couple of hours to get the lighting together. People went crazy, they took a lot of pictures of me... there was even a standing ovation lol... I was about to pop one guy who mistook me for Robocop (wtf?!)... I had a great time last night.

Enjoy some of the pics!

here'zs some WIP of our costumes. Castor is mostly done although we've been so crazy busy we didn't have time to do his hair and makeup. And mine we're trying to finish up tonight for disneyland halloween tomorrow!

CYBERMAN!!!!!! YESSSS.
Your other costumes are awesome too! ;)

Here's my Daft Punk Tron Legacy costume!

I bought the suit from cosplayhouse.com and added EL tape from electroluminescence-inc.com I used double sided scotch tape to attach them to the reflective strips already on the costume.

The helmet was made with a costume army helmet, with cardstock pieces covered in fiberglass resin and bondo, then sanded, primed, and painted. I used these templates Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire The LEDs in the helmet are 4 "flexible LED strips" from oznium.com

Someone mistook you for robocop? :lol Some really drunk guy asked me if I was dressed up as Batman's wife. Most people recognized that I was from Tron, though.

Love seeing all the costumes! I'm so envious of those of you who have yours lit up!

I understand this is the "Tron Legacy Costume" forum but I still thought I would share my classic Tron costume. This year I went as Sark

Hey, everyone. Awesome costumes. I thought I'd post my own here since I lurked around a bit and got some tips and tricks from the other posts. Mine certainly isn't as professional looking, but I've had the idea for a while now and I thought it was a pretty good one. I call it The Gentleman Program.

The EL wire is simply weaved in and out of the tux, which I bought at a thrift store. Everything else was from Amazon. It's been a hit at Halloween parties so far, and I hope to win the costume contest at work.

Someone asked my buddy if he was a glow stick :lol. Most knew what we were. The club we went to was near pitch black which was awesome. Two glowing dudes in the middle of the dance floor :).

Here are some pics of me and my Fiancee at the big halloween party we attended. I was very excited, my costumes turned out great. Everyone loved them and wanted to take our pics. We came in second to a guy that made an electric chair that he wore and it had a strobe light and a fog machine in it that made him look like he was frying! LOL

fireslayer26,

At least you didn't lose to a guy dressed as the NY Jets head coach!

What size (mm) EL wire did you use?

Hey all...
All your halloween Tron costumes are so amazing!!
I re-did my whole grid warrior suit with some much needed
improvements, and it was quite a success! Wore this out
3 times this weekend...most people flipped out and were taking
my pic like I was at a convention :) funniest responses were
two people thought I was a skeleton, and one thought I was a scuba driver...
too funny. Here it is:

Thanks!! Yours is way awesome too!!
I'm using 2.5mm wire on my arms and torso.
And 5.0mm on the front and back of my legs,
because that's where I had breakage on my first suit(front and back of legs).
The thicker stuff for the legs worked perfect, walked all around
the east side of Milwaukee Saturday night, no problems at all!

Thanks. Ran out of time to do the arms and legs, but am already planning to do so.

Thinking about making a whole new suit using EL wire this time instead of LEDs. I need to learn a bit more about EL wire before I do so though. Gotta do some re-reading of this thread.

Would you consider using 5mm for the whole costume to better help prevent breakage or is it too much?

Also, what material is your suit made from?

Wish I was good enough to use LED's! Jealous.
I would say the 5mm is way to think to do the arms and torso.
Its not very bendable, so you wouldnt be able to make the appropriate shapes on the torso. And my suit this time is some foam that user Twinight recommended on his build for his Legacy Guard costume, I forget what it's called at the moment. Its WAY better than the neoprene foam I used for my first suit!

Don't forget the clear tape. Since its near the human body you want to prevent moisture from shorting it. Just like the corner, no one will see the the tape. I worried about my split electrodes line in the middle. But 2 feet away, no one will ever notice.

Hey, thanks for the images and insight, definitely helpful. When you added the wire connections between the two pieces of el tape, did you have to embed the wire into the tape? or is it simply on top of the tape? My el tape looks like it has a coating on the backside, will I have to dig through it when making connections?

Everyone who posted pics you definitely represented Tron at its best. Love both the replica and custom takes on the costumes.

KUDOS to all!

I was so hoping to run into another costumer with the Tron theme but it seems I was the only one everywhere I went. haha. With the reflective UD jacket and pants I used I got a lot of, "Does it light up" when someone would notice the costume. Maybe next year I'll have enought time that I can work on something with some powered light.
