Tron Legacy Costume

LED would be the brightest but it makes the cosplay so thick its like armor, and you still have to deal with dead spots and diffusing properly. Someone out there will get the diffusion right with LED, but it'll be a lot of hassle.

I think I'm one of the only ones on these forums that attempted the LED method and met with success. Really I just perfected Eddyaddr's idea with LED strips rather than EL wire, because you are correct, you get a lot of loss with EL wire and its just not as bright.

For screen accuracy, the ultimate solution is of course Light Tape. But for Tron on a budget, or just to get the idea across, I've had great success with LED strips distributed against this stuff called Chromolux paper with shower curtain on top. The only fall back is that its not flexible when put together, but if you design your suit around that its not so bad.

And yeah her suit was a rubber-looking PVC, I think. Didn't get close enough to inspect and it was dark. I had similar material I was working with to begin with and ended up scrapping it because I couldn't get the pattern right :\. Other costumes got in the way of perfecting our Tron costumes, since we also started out with EL tape and EL wire and ended up using reflective material to save time and energy

Sorry, but did you happen to notice if she did reflective or lights? I have shiny metallic spandex that I'll be using for my siren suit but I might get some of the stretch/spandex vinyl instead. Not sure if the shine will interfere.

Here's a couple more pics of my Siren costume and got a close up of my contact lens that I wore. They are silver with a bit of a dark circle around the edge.

I was hoping to see your DCon pics! Really excellent job on the End of the Line girl.

I'm going to start my Gem wig soon. Is yours a lace front or a regular wig?

Hi everyone! I really need help putting these two shoes together for my Siren costume. I have no shoe modding experience whatsoever. tips for what glue to use, how to take the shoes apart without messing them up, etc would be SUPER helpful. Thanks :)

I bought white patent platform heels and I'm going to be using cork to build the midsole between the toe and heel. Attach it with small nails, then Shoegoo or white caulk to fill in the gaps. I feel like the higher the heel, the more exaggerated the shape is, and possibly more accurate to the movie shoe height.

Also, I found hhplace.org really helpful for shoe mod info.

Hey everyone! First time poster. It took me three weeks to get through 173 pages! Thank you all so much for all your effort. your costumes all look amazing.

I wanted to put an idea out there to see if anyone thinks it will work.

white high-bright el wire method of diffusion on page 42 of this thread by eddieadryr. And you use red masking tape to make the red color. I think that the brightness of the white el wire will work with the dimming effect of the red masking tape.

Does anyone think this might work?

I trolled your post and eventually found they mcp siren you made for your girl. And it was the right choice for red. Red being at the lowest end of the spectrum. Tape or wire would be too dim and LED was the right choice. I had been debating about doing LED but its just way too think. In Taiwan they came out with a flat LED light shirt but its no better than EL, plus not sold to the public-yet. If one was armored like the daft punk cyber knights, maybe.

One thing though is why so heavy with gauge of the wiring?

Because the LED is DC, it draws a lot more current. That LED strip stuff I used draws on average 100mA/foot, and I used about 22feet for that suit so total was 2.2A. For the battery connection, 22AWG wire can't handle that high a current flow (max for 22AWG is 1.6A). SO i just used a thick wire for the battery connection

I used LED on mine and it turned out great. The only problem I had was with the heat during transport melting the glue and my strips started to come undone. I used the technique here LED-lit Tron v2.0 suit , but used Taffeta and shower curtain instead of the vinyl and undershirt.

Haven't posted in a while since I've been busy working on work, and gathering materials. Figured I'd give a short little update. I now have lots of foamies, Plasti-dip, Mod Podge, an assortment of craft foam and fabric glues, a nice set of lycra shirt and pants, and plenty of drawing and cutting materials. Here's a very rough draft of what I could see of Rinzler's design from some reference pics. There were some un-erasable errors, and I'm an engineer not an artist so bear with me :lol.

This weekend I plan to make a duct tape upper body mannequin so I can get proportions right, as things in the drawing are very poorly sized at the moment. If anyone has some advice for this first step I'm all ears. Once I get ANYTHING physical to work from I can start running, but these first steps always kill me.

I just got my lamps from Cool neon!!! :D

I have a few questions: They say you can contour them, but I'm not sure how to do it... at all... XD Can anyone give me some simple instructions (like... for people who aren't familiar with EL tape)?
Also, if I cut them in half, can I light both halves? Or will I lose half the strip?

Thanks! :)

You used one central battery source?

Whooo hoooo! thanks SiriusGraphics for posting my pix Joe (photognome) took of me at D*Con. That is my FAV my far of my Quorra costume showing its detailing and brightness of the lights. He took many many photos of me that night on the Con*tourage party balcony. It takes quite awhile to get the good exposure shots of the Tron light up costumes, it is not easy capturing the costume detail, person and lights all at once.

Thank you Hfuy for your Quorra background edit of me. Love it! There is a high res one of another of another pose of me from SDCC buried a few pages back in the thread, not sure if you saw it or not.

Hi! Most of my D*Con pics have been posted on my FB page if you would like to add me and have a look at them :) some are on Flickr as well. Thanks for your comment on my EOL Club waitress that was by far the most fun! Everyone was amazed at my light up drink tray with real booze in the glasses I think than my costume itself :p

As for my Gem wig, yes, it is lace front and I still am going to restyle it. That was literally my 1st time wearing it and the lace part was showing way too much. I had no time to deal with it as time was running out and I had to run out the door.

I will probably be wearing my Siren costume again at Disneyland for Halloween with Kit :D can't wait for that!!

Just wanted to throw in some photos here of me and Kit at Disneyland a few days ago for Minnie's Moonlight Madness. Costumes were allowed to this event as they shut the park down just for the 300+ groups that participated in solving puzzle trivia clues all around the park!

What a fun night! I will never forget it. Was very magical!
