Has anyone had any experience with elwirepros.com's "super-bright" el wire?
They claim it's brighter than "high bright" wire, and elwirepros.com also claims that you need twice the inverter power for super-bright wire than you would for an equal amount of high-bright wire, as per the recommend length of feet each inverter is rated to handle.


Anyone have any experience? Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks!!!

Thanks. I can actually see better than I thought I would. It's like looking through a pair of dark sunglasses, so it's better in the daylight than indoors, but I can still see well enough to not crash into people/things.

As I have seen, they are not any brighter than any other major company out there. If there is any difference, it is too sligth for my eye to notice. As to the inverter.. I have no idea where they come up with these claims. I have three different types of inverters, each makes the same 15ft of wire from 2 different companies look about equally bright.

I finished my costume last night (pics on facebook in signature line) with the new 12c power supply and the LF inverter. Just as I had feared the increased power was a good and bad thing.

Its powerful enough to light me up in daylight or a well light room and my EL still looks white.

But that power is too white and out does the SI Disc mod, making the colors not match up. SI mod it pale bule/white, EL is now warm white. Even if there was a way (different warm white LEDs) to make he disc match, I wouldnt want to as I don't even like the way the upped EL looks in the dark. Its just a blah white color. I much preferred the pale blue/cool white effect (in my avatar) it had under lower power, plus it matched and would increase the life of my EL.

So, since I do not want to be pink indoors, I suppose I will keep the upped power for the comic con and just put my 3v 2AA inverter back on for parties and Halloween.

Its a real bummer spending that much to find out it was better before. But I guess at least I won't be pink at Comic Con.

Hey MisterDigital - from the diagram you posted - aren't you using quick connector between light strips and the inverter ???

If so, then it should be pretty easy to switch inverter/power source anytime you want. And you got that jacket on with multiple pockets... you could probably take both inverters with you all the time and when it gets a bit darker, you just switch them and voilà.

That's my plan. Its just a bummer that after all that work (and extra cost)that my stuff isn't a match in the daytime. I guess its not such a big deal. I don't need to light my disc in the daytime anyway.

I know it's been a while, Actordiver, but in response to your post #919 saying:

I've actually set up my white KFlynn disc like this. The slider switch lights the inner C-ring and the existing button activates the outer blade ring. Mine is a mechanical button though that actually switches it on and off with a 'click'. I'm still perfecting this mod. The switch I used had to be modified to work and it's pretty hard to press on and off. I thought about just using a momentary switch as well, but then you have to keep it depressed to light the outer ring which kinda sux, especially if you want to display it with the outer ring lit. It just wouldn't be possible with a momentary switch.

I'll post a video to explain further what I'm talking about later this week.

In fact, one could hardwire in a switch and make it very simple to switch from "day mode" to "night mode."

I'd like to see where the switch would fit into such a circuit - with the 2 inverters. My limited knowledge is not enough to figure it out by myself

You could put a DPDT switch where the Molex is in MD's diagram. Commons would go to the EL strips, and the two pairs of remaining contacts would go to each inverter. You'd still have to switch each inverter on/off individually, but the setup I'm proposing would prevent having to swap connectors around.

I'm having some issues with what to use for a hub. Also, how to connect it to the armor... A friend just started working on a Siren costume and is dumbfounded at how she is going to mount her disk and hub to her spandex suit.

Any advice?
I think I might be making this a bit more difficult than it actually is.

Might be difficult to picture, but this is what I would do.
Wear a cross-strapped shoulder harness under the lycra (similar to a shoulder holster harness.) Attached several Neodium magnets onto the straps where the hub would go. Attach corresponding magnets on the hub to sandwich the lycra costume in between. No cutting or sagging of the fabric.

That's a brilliant idea twinight, I'll have to keep that in mind, since I was actually wondering how to attach these...

For some of the flimsier sections, say Quorra's lower arms where the armor material can flop around easily, you could even sew magnets into the undersuit part and help keep it in place that way. Still removable, but the parts won't wander around when you don't want them to. For those, though, I'd think Neodymium magnets might be a little too strong.

Thanks SI, this was just a paraphrased version in which I totally spaced out and forgot to mention the relay. That post did finally show up in the JY though. If you like, I could even draw you up a quickie electrical diagram to further explain what I meant by it. Actually thinking about doing it... wouldn't be a problem except the physical space inside the ring. I'll start cutting into mine probably Thursday afternoon / evening.

MisterDigital.. you are killing me. I had, back in Jan 2011, decided to work on a Retro Flynn styled setup. I had all the parts (except a good light jacket) to do a User/Program Summer Suit, what I will be calling a TRON 2.5 costume. Looks like it's time to start gathering trinkets and materials once more and actually get it done.

The concept assumes that at the end of Legacy, Sam goes out and builds a new server to safe guard the downloaded files of The Grid that were left behind after Flynn/Clu's reintegration. There were thousands, perhaps Millions? of Programs there, now leaderless and without Users to serve, so I will be making a semi-warrior (part-time Video Game Warrior?) that can wear casual and combat costumes as needed. Since we have seen in Legacy that more than just simple black skin-tight suits and various long coats were worn (see the End of Line Club scene as Sam enters, cargo pants!?!), this is one of those anything goes moments.

Honestly, this is why I never got into costuming all those many years ago. I know my addictive personality when it comes to building/creation. When I build or refit an arcade machine, forge a sword, or craft some chainmaile, I gain an obsessive focus that could cut through Sark's Identity Disc.
