Tron Legacy Costume

I was afraid of that. I was thinking I might try to squigle the wire back and forth to fill in the space as much as possible and hopefully even out the glow. That will mean alot more EL though. Bumer.

As for the wetsuit zipper, I thought of that. I was planning to use one with a front entry. That way the collar is closer to the Flynn suit, too.

So you think it will be too tight to squeeze in the wire?

Nevermind. I just stumbled across a youtube video of a guy who did his exactly the way I suggested a few posts ago. The results are less than stellar. Back to the drawing board.

Here's a few pics from my latest shoot in my Quorra costume. Photography by Ejen of "Cosplay in America" (hardcover book) very awesome compilation of cosplayers! Check out his book! :)

By the way, since El Tape can be just down to the size you need. Does anyone know where you can purchase El Tape (white color) 2 inches wide maybe even 2.5 inches wide?

If I can get my hands on at least 2 inch wide El Tape, I will be rewiring my Quorra costume and selling my diffused white El Wire strips here in the forum. I just like the brightness better with El Tape. Especially Light Tape but way too pricey. Was going to have it custom made for me but it is going to be way too expensive.

Thanks for your help! :)

Excellent stuff Annisse, I'm sure you're damn proud of your work and the photos! I like the second shot, it's very "bad Quorra" xD The white balance in those concrete wall shots is just spot-on for the Tron look.

I have tried opaque and transparent red, orange & white materials with no luck, it shows as a hotspot line through materials each time, not looking for a shiny look just a more diffused light for the red. I have pretty much given up on it now for this costume, redesigning my "piping" into 2 lines of red EL wire running parallel now.

Have you tried frosted vinyl? Someone has talked about using that.

I know this sounds ghetto but have you tried maybe using tin foil?

Perhaps try a reflector type of setup, light a car's headlight. It might be complicated to implement in a flexible form but perhaps you could work it out. It would probably cut down on the light output, but the EL Wire would be covered and the reflected light visible.

Nice pictures. I'm assuming downtown tunnels.

Definitely too tight to squeeze wire, maybe diffusion only works well with white/blue EL Wire. Oh well it's all a learning experience for me as this is my first ever costume, I would still like to know whta to seal the EVA foam with that I can paint black and not have the paint crack as the foam bends and no I cannot afford plastidip to do this it costs too much in Australia as I need it shipped and it's classified as dangerous goods and they charge a fortune for it.

Keep in mind the natural reaction of the Eye and the Camera to see different wave lengths of light. Blues and Greens they both see very well, in the case of the camera it can actually enhance the Blue tones (Greens a bit less but still pronounced), while Red tones in both views will always look a bit softer or dimmer. This is why I did not go Red, but Teal (Cyan) instead.

An example of two of my personal 3watt Lightsabers.

You will note that the Cyan blade looks seriously brighter, while the Red one seems almost dull in turn. The camera hates Red some days. In reality the Cyan and Red blades are nearly the same output and the eye tends to see them as such.. the camera, not at all. If you notice the background, you will see that the Red LED actually overpowers the Cyan one and lights the whole area up with a redish hue, yet the camera only cares about the bright light in the foreground and makes the blueish tone that much more impressive. (Yes, I have shown my Dark Side and used a Star Wars ref on a TRON thread) :p

As to sealing EVA Foam, I always use PlastiDip these days, but quality Latex paint over a good and sturdy primer should easily adhere and flex once it sets.

Very cool photos! I look forward to your results with the EL tape. :thumbsup

Well I had an interesting trip out to the thrift store, k-mart, and almart. Sadly I could not find a jacket I liked. I did find some baseball catchers guards I may hack apart to make "boots" out of.

I did find a jacket, but it was more of a track jacket, light weight, sort of stretchy and with a nice hex pattern built in. I just don't know if it would fit the "tron" feel since its not leather and all. Do you guys think something like that might work?

Pics?

For those looking for ISO/Civilian jackets, if you are near a Burlington Coat Factory, hit it.. ASAP. They are clearing jacket stock from $19+ and I have found 5-6 viable items in the $29-$39 range, new.

I've always sealed eva foam with regular white elmer's/kids/school glue. It'll take some time to build up the layers so it's totally sealed, but once that's done you can hit it with some spray primer (I'd get something rated for plastic since the glue has a plastic feel once it's dry) and then paint it. A latex based paint would have some flex to it as would fabric paint since it's meant to move with fabric. I've never worked with the stuff, but I imagine straight up liquid latex would work too. Check out sex shops (no, I'm not kidding) for it or see if you have any theater supply stores near you.

Just to be silly, though the looks are there for the asking, the Xbox360 LIVE service offers TRON based outfits and trinkets. I believe this is the full list of available options for base costumes, with the trinkets shown in the tabs on these screens:

Sorry for the glare, the sun is UP today with a bit of rage here in NYC.

Those are way cool, downloading a avatar tron costume now.
Out of curiosity what does the green light mean in the tron verse?

Edit: Burlington does have some NICE stuff at great prices too. Checked their site and found this.

Shouldn't be to hard to rip the buttons off and figure out someway to still have it close. I might build a "color" into it using the reflective tape.
I just hope my local one might have it in stock.

In Legacy it also seems to be a basic program color like blue. If you notice in the game grid, some of the programs had green. but in the original tron it definately meant military

I'm curious to know what you all think about this jacket I found. Considering that the Flynn jacket was more than likely a modified Alphine NYC perforated jacket, I was searching along those lines. I came across this. I'm pretty confident that this could be suitable enough after modifications.

Very nice. I think that one could work very well.
