Tron Legacy Costume

To get it to fit my size was a bit of a process, first I looked at the available pictures, compared the placement of certain parts of the design and then compared where they are located in relation to shoulders chin, stomach. Once I had somewhat of an idea I grabbed a tight white shirt and used a washable marker and drew on it. Keep in mind if you just need one side, you can just trace it and put it together since t is a symmetrical design.

Here is one helpful hint, the front chest piece on the bottom has a small circle, that is where you belly button would be, it was a big reference help for me.
Hope this helps.

actually thats extremely helpful, i never even noticed that
thanks ^^
and seeing your test fit has me All Kinds of stoked for my costume ^^

First fit test has been a success

That is going to be the best looking one by far, and very easy to wear.

4 PM can't come fast enough for me. Today is the day all the hard work pays off and I get to revel a little in the accomplishment. Either that or all the EL pieces fall off and wilt. :p

nice work. the shapes and patterns are turning out great. just curious, what are your plans for connecting it to the shoulder pads and arm pieces?
I am actually not quite sure How I will make the shoulders right now, since they are an oval concave shape, but once I figure out how to make them, I plan on tucking in the chest shoulder part and arm parts under the shoulder piece. This suit has to be the most difficult costume I have tried to build, there are no many thing to take into account, but I am having a blast building it.

You need a heat gun. $25 at Lowes. Depending on what material you are using, you should be able to drape form the foam over a rounded surface to get the concave shape.

I am using neoprene, and I also have this other foam stuff I bought at Michaels, I have been using it to cut out the circle shapes. I will give it a try, but is there a particular material you can sugest that might work better?
Thank you for the advice that seems to be the best route to take, I will be stoping by lowe's latter today.

Don't know if you can incorporate this into the neoprene but if you're looking for something over the joint, you can try the Bohn Body Armor.

You can cut this stuff, and it flexes very nicely. I bought a set to use in various parts of the costume where I wanted to hide either a strap or wire. This link is to the shoulder armor:

I'm not sure about neoprene, but the material from Michaels is most likely EVA foam which works. Just don't get it too hot. 250 for 2 minutes should work but if you use a heat gun, you'll avoid possible fumes from oven baking.

Wow, thanks for the suggestions, the armor looks very durable but for now since time is short I will try the Eva Foam and there is a Michaels right by me :).

SO HERE IS MY QUORRA ARMOR VEST... it is still a work in process. Hopefully i will finish it ASAP!
excuse the slightly wrinkly look.. I have a structured shell that goes underneath it that smooths it out but I didn't cut it down yet and it was extending past the cut-outs in the vest, which didn't allow the vest to be fully shown since the shell is also black. I decided to remove the under-shell for the photos so that you can see the shape of the vest.
ALSO, the white ring on the upper shoulder is to give you an idea of what the rest of the white markings will look like. That ring also glows in the dark with an Aqua-blue color. It glows very bright!! I will take a photo later when I finish the whole costume.

FEEDBACK PLEASE :) thank you!

Looking good! What did you make your vest out of again? The cut outs on the sides look very similar to what I did too. I like that you are building this on a duct tape form which I assume is from your body. I must get mine done too. Building a form fitting costume on a body form that is not to your exact measurements leads to alot of redesigning and not fitting properly so this looks like you are well on your way to a perfect fitting finished costume.

Good Luck with the rest and can't wait to see your glow. Maybe I should recharge my practice glow paint job I did with black light. I never tried it with black light but yes, the glow paint glows really bright, looks good, just wondering still how long the glow will last? Do we have to charge it for like one hour with a blacklight and will charging it longer make it glow longer? That is the question ;)

Still can't get over how great your EL WIRE idea is working out. Can't wait to try it out, must wait till after Halloween, this week, way too busy for me :)

Can't wait to see your finished suit!
I cannot wait either, I just got some Eva foam and I am going to try and make the shoulder pads today. I am so glad I found this forum, it is so inspiring :)

DONE!

Now a little more wire management and some tightening up the designs to the frame but that's it. Done and done! Now give me some candy!!

DRESS FORM: if you make a duct tape dress form of yourself make sure that you stuff it with some type of confetti or small beads or other similar material that can be moved around. If you make it too rigid then getting the clothes off it is a pain in the you know what.

GLOW PAINT: i charged it in the sun all day.. it retains a glow for several hours (prob about 4) but if you re-charge it with a flash light it lasts even longer!!!!

THE VEST: it is made from spandex and latex. I tried on the vest and it fits PERFECTLY!!!!!!!!!!! just like QUORRA :) :) ... I don't want to post a picture yet while I'm wearing it because I want to finish the costume first.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!!!!! WE ARE 3 DAYS AWAY!!!!!!!!!

has anyone worked with conductive fabric tape ??? I was thinking of updating my costume for the movie release to glow wire, and maybe using conductive fabric tape to run the wire on.

Just INCREDIBLE Compass!!! Great job!!! I even kinda like the wiring showing (gives it that "program" feel) but I'm sure you're like me and want it totally smoothed out with nothing showing.

major kudos!!

PS..forget the candy, bring on the margaritas!!!!

Hey everyone!

I've been following this thread for a while now, and I've finally decided to go all in on a Tron Legacy costume as well. Of course mine won't be nearly as cool since I'm just using the EVA foam from Michaels and some glow in the dark tape. It's 11pm now and I've JUST finished experimenting with the Rust-oleum glow in the dark paint that I bought from Home Depot. (here it is at amazon, Amazon.com: Rust-Oleum 214945 Glow in the Dark 7-Ounce, Glow In The Dark)

I followed the directions and did 2 coats, but was not very happy with the results. The one upside (and the main reason I tried it) is that its really cheap. About $10 a can, combined with the 4 white foamies I got, the total was only $14. Seemed like a great deal, but the results are less than stellar. Similar to Annisse's descriptions, the paint comes out very splotchy and just plain looks bad. I charged the paint with a UV bulb, but it still looked bad. A third coat made no difference. I feel like there's just no way to get a nice even coat. I used a nap roller, but I doubt a brush would have made a difference, I'd probably just see lots of brush strokes instead.

So now for the real reason for this post. I found this glow in the dark tape at Joann Fabrics that I bought just in case the paint didn't work out. Well the tape actually works great! It emits a nice even glow and is super bright. You can buy it on amazon as well although it seems to be out of stock at the moment, Amazon.com: UGlu MTR505 Glo Tape

The one downside is that its really expensive (at least to me it is, at around $10 for 30 inches). I bought 4 rolls, and I'm not sure if that's enough, but that's all the store had. I may have to buy some more off amazon. Anyhow I just wanted to share that discovery with everyone since you've all provided a wealth of information for me and my attempt. I'll try posting pictures as well to show the difference between the two.
