Tron Legacy Costume

Ok so here is a little update. Started work on my friends' Legacy build today. Here's what I came up with so far. Still got to buy one more strip of el tape for the zipper flap on the opposite side of the jacket and will post pictures when that day comes. Due to him being a bit heavier than me (hes not fat just stocky....ironic that his last name is stocks lol) he will not have it zipped up. It barely even zips for me and im a stick. Sent the guy measurements and he still sent the wrong size. too lazy to send it back haha

Yes, this stuff is a miracle! 1st I bent it in the \_ shape as you described, then folded it at an angle and then that is how you get the 90 degree angle. You are just not supposed to fold this stuff directly on the SCRIBE line. There is a thin line down the center of the El Litetape which is how it lights up.

You can even cut this stuff into any shape as long as you have equal amounts of Litetape on either side of the SCRIBE center line.

I hope any one that wants to light up their Tron costumes goes with this stuff. Much cheaper than the Light Tape company and works just as bright!
Is it easy to hide the connection between pieces e.g. a 1" to a 2" without a lot of bulk and notice-ability? This stuff is perfect for Clu's robes but I don't want to go down that road if I'm going to have a big ol' lump where I have to piece different widths together. Thanks.

I'm sure this has probably been covered before but.. what method did you use to get the unlighted lines in the EL tape? Hope that sentence made sense..

^^^^ Actually that's a good question. How did you go the line etching/outlining?

I'm a happy little camper currently. I'm going to order the material for the armor on Thursday and I was able to find a Kevin Flynn disc at Target on clearance. I'm going to hit every Target that might have it within a 20 mile radius. This will make modding both discs colors easier if there is a clear ring on the outside..

Electric tape. Cut out little strips and laid them over. But since this was white tape, I had to double layer it

haha sure ill try to post a picture later. But the lines of the electrical tape arent as straight as they look up close just warning you. They do just fine though especially when lit up

Does anybody know where to buy blue EL tape thats white when in off state?

I will say, unless you NEED to have it be white off, it will take you many hours finding that specific tape, and will probably cost you more.... Just saying. I will tell you if my EL tape that comes in tomorrow is white off(I don't think so)

Hi! Well, if you are talking about the LuminousFilm.com El Tape like I got in white, then no, it is WOPO (white on/pink off). I gotta leave it on the entire time even in the day time on my End of Line Club waitress costume at SDCC otherwise everyone will see a Pink light strip on my dress.... can't have that now can we ;)

If you are split connecting different size El Tape then yes because you will be laying then side to side. But the way I did my End of Line Club waitress dress, I have a bulk where the fold of my 90 degree angles are. That then created an overlay problem where my lines are not looking straight when the El Tape is lite up.

All I can do to fix the bulk folded part is use 3M clear tape, cuz it is damn strong, to press and hold the fold down in place then to fix the overlapped part some white electrical tape, or the white latex I used since my dress is white to cover the part of the El Tape that is causing the overlap lighted area problem.

I will have to take close photos of before and after to show you what I mean, I am sure this makes no sense unless you have done this and experienced yourself ;)

Hi all.

I'm still not quite done yet but here is what I have so far. I wanted a jacket like Flynn's but I'm not huge on leather so I decided to try a different material. I made my pattern from this picture and others. The only changes I made were I excluded the shoulder design and I havent added pockets yet. I'm using Lighttape for the lighting. Once I'm completely done I may make a pleather version.

What do you all think?

Don't think that stops us here in NYC.. ever. Our CosPlay scene is somewhat restricted to Cons and the like, so my group of nutbars just goes out to clubs that play particular music (80's for TRON, Goth for Vamp looks, Techno for Cyber styles, etc), or have events where costumes are not completely out of sorts (i.e. Fetish clubs, Theme parties, etc), and run the place into the ground. :love Even when we go to events (and have been doing this as far back as '94) where no one but our group is dressed up in Cos gear, we always get odd looks right along side tons of hand shaking and compliments on our work.

LOL! You guys are hilarious! Unfortunately here in Israel most people are less open minded and I think we would get too many odd looks, besides I'll be embarassed to just go like that :) I think it would stand out in a silly way and I don't really like to get all this attention when it's bad attention... I save my special stuff (leather dresses, etc) for gigs but it's nothing like a full costume. Can I join your group? :p
And LOL for the Nazi incident as well...

I got it here
SOLID BLUE Reflective Tape - Avery- 6" Wide X 10' Long - eBay (item 170595435063 end time Mar-27-11 06:55:28 PDT)

It is not EL tape, but it works very well. Depending on the light it is either very blue, or reflects a decent amount of light. In the "dark" it really bounces light around depending on the angle you are at. I actually had to take it out of my room because light from my alarm clock kept hitting it and shining in my eyes. I will post more pictures soon. Tomorrow is the con, so I should have a ton of them. I will also snap any pictures of other Tron stuff I see.
