Tron Legacy Costume

the fragility of EL wire bothers me. I'm thinking of using surgical tubing around it to try and protect it a little more when it is under the shower curtain. Hopefully that won't diffuse it so much I lose a lot of glow.

My concern of this is WHERE a 12volt Battery source FITS in such a small space of the disc with the 'On/Off' function to work with? That seems to be like MAJOR WIRING work there(or am I missing 'Electrical-Geek Class 101' here)? :confused

Good point, and also not a lot will be needed. I was thinking more for the idea of keeping it matching whatever light method is used on the suit. If you aren't building a suit, going for white, or trying to get as bright as possible, go with an LED strip. I can't remember where I heard it but the EL wire doesn't emit very well from inside the disc and LEDs are much brighter than even the High bright EL Wire.

There are a number of 12volt options that will fit in a small area, such as inside a disc using 'button' batteries (akin to those already in your Deluxe Disc). I believe SoulInertia is doing just that on the Disc Full Mod Kit.

The biggest issue I see with ELWire in a Disc is the Inverter. They tend to be 'just' small enough if you use a 2xAA pack. You might have to remove it from its case then insert the guts into the disc.

For powering ELWire and ELTape on a suit, those little batteries won't last very long, so you get a 12volt (various mah rating, 2000mah in my case for 4-6 hours of run time for a 50ft ELWire set) Battery Pack. My 12volt Sound Inverter basically eats about 300mah per hour, so it's not a huge drain when I have 2x 2000mah packs hidden under my coat for easy transport and switch out for a full day of Con or Club activities.

I have a party I'm going to in about a month and I'm after pointers. I'm wanting to modify existing black clothes for this project (I'm going as a program, not as one of the heroes) and so I have a fake leather jacket, a hoodie, a t-shirt and some jeans, all black. I'm planning on ordering some of that EL-Wire cause I don't want the glowing sections to be all that thick but I just want to know if there is any way that I can embed the wire in the jacket, etc so that it doesn't stand out and look so ugly when its not dark?

This is the sort of thing (roughly) that I'm aiming for: http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/...HalfFacedMan_PrisonerBlackIso_081203_SJ10.jpg

Sorry for being a complete noob, I've always wanted to try this sort of thing but have never got round to it before. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Ret.. those lines would be made easily with ELTape and/or ELWire in a diffused shell.

I suggest you start reading from WAYYYY back in the thread as all such questions have been answered many times, in many different ways, over the last few months.

Since I started on my costume some time back, I also needed a Disc for that purpose as well, so I did a Disc "proplet" that I could take to conventions and use during Halloween as well.

Here is a quick little video of the Disc I put together:
(I am using white LED strips)

YouTube - Tron Legacy Identity Disc 2 - completed.

When I start on my costume, I'll be using mostly EL tape. I hope it turns out as well as others I have seen in this thread. :)

Have I mentioned that I hate you PM? (j/k) :cry Such great electronics skills.. this whole thread has simply forced me to seriously learn more about LED and wiring setups.

Make that TWO that HATES HIM - KIDDIN! But yeah, wish I had those 'Lt. Com. Data' Electronic skills....Oh well - I'll try to let my 'just average-joe brain' know how and try something. :)

If I were you I would velcro some el tape on and form the shapes on it using electrical tape

Woohoo my mannequin (with arms) arrives tomorrow, I can actually get started on my costume< i am using a simpler design for light "piping" based off one of the Tron Evolution Battlegrids, it's nifty for those looking to do a simpler costume. I might be able to start putting pic's up soon :)

I have been avoiding this thread like the plague, because I knew it would suck me in like a black hole. After reading through 92 pages, my desire to build Rinzler has grown from "that would be cool" to "I want to get on this".
Other than the Icaro 2000 glider helmet has anyone found anything that works?

Unfortunately you just might have to build it yourself bUt there are lots of other threads on here ( including mine) that actualy tell the easiest way to build a rinzler suit. Good luck man!

I will be at Dragoncon with my tron crew.

we will also be hosting a Tron themed dance party at midsouthcon this year. (at least that is the tentative plan).

Sweet I will most likely be at dragon con also... But I will. Be dressed as rinzler with the white lights instead of orange (so for all of you who have seen the movie, the character tron). What costumes are you guys making for it?

I wholly intend to have my skip-trace program suit done to show off at DragonCon. Now that I've finally settled on a design I like I'll be opening up a WIP thread when I get started on the construction.
