Masking was done with vasline and a craft brush. Once the top coat (Satin Black) was dry, the blaster was given a vigorous rub-down with a shop rag.

"Thumbprinting" (since I don't have a better term for it) a layer of oil-based black paint onto the silver areas to simulate the look of the blaster having been handled by many, many pairs of dirty hands. It keeps the shine down and adds a layer of authenticity on camera.

Dry-brushing the rest of the body down with a light coat of strategically-applied black paint.

Time to let it sit for a bit... I tossed the DH-17 onto the bench for comparison's sake, and I think we're squarely where we want to be!

Estimated out-of-pocket cost for the A-295 is roughly $15, but the major investment is (of course) time spent building the dang thing. I may end up casting the next one instead of doing the Battlefront II variant, as was initially suggested.

Here are the remaining detail shots of this particular blaster. Since I was working entirely from reference photos and without templates, a few areas are a little "rough-and-ready", but this was always going to be the prototype. Having built one how I "thought" it might be done, its twin brother will be built how it *should* be done, and will look a good deal more tidy as a result.
Still, all our Rebel blasters are supposed to look like they survived a shuttle crash, so the rough bits can be chalked up to "collateral damage."
