Here is the bottle painted with the Autumn Red Acrylic I got at Micheal's.
I have to redo the leather string and find a decent cork yet.
Also, even though they used a strip of masking tape on the TOS prop, I'm not 100% sold on that yet. I may end up with a very thin leather strip glued down there... still debating. Any opinions on that point?
I've seen a few of the lighter amber bottles, but they usually go for a few hundred. The cork should be easy to find. As for the wooden stopper, I'd have thought twice about buying the bottle without it.
Looks good. I had the same issue with finding a cork. I think I bought a bag of assorted corks at Wal-Mart or Michael's...otherwise it was nearly impossible to find the right size. I suggest Gorilla glue to keep it in place. http://www.therpf.com/f9/saurian-brandy-bottle-star-trek-tos-123553/
For the strip, I used plain masking tape. I had to lay the paint on very thin; layer after layer.
Try Lowes or Home Depot for corks. Look on the hardware aisle in the specialty fastener drawers. I've gotten them there for a couple of different things. They have sizes from really small to bigger than you should need.
I usually can find a good cork replacment at Ace hardware in the drawers where they have screwa and nuts and household hardware. Take your bottle so you can find the correct one. Might be 25 cents.
