Tom's Real Parts Obi Wan Saber

Wow, that's an amazing find. I've about given up on ever finding one. Maybe one day...
Congrats!

Thank you everyone! I believe I literally said to my dad a week ago "oh yea, I'm never actually going to find a booster, are you kidding me?" haha, i stand corrected, this was a complete accident. I was looking for custom vintage flash hiders to put on a side-arm blaster I'm working on. I noticed a little listing that said "browning 303 fh" and I was like........uh....and decided to click on it.

Of the correct vintage kind of sink knob - The black dome endcap versions have a taller socket, (a solid cylinder) not the sunken in models that were used on the saber. This means I have much less space for the head of a bolt.

I know of the idea of drilling and tapping T nuts to the central spacer, and I also know of the idea of using an FX spacer, both of which will cost me a bit of dough and some precise drilling without a drill press. Once I get this and see if it has a bearing, I'll weigh my options of bolting this together.

Indeed great find ... what are your intentions with that flash-hider? Will it go inside the OB1 clamp or will you still use it for a custom blaster?

Chaim

If it is, I'm very tempted to use it as a spacer. They're steel right? I bet I can find someone to hack it in half

I seem to recall someone saying that if you cut off the cone (and just leave the ribbed section), it's about the right length under the clamp and might even fit into the "bottom" section of the grenade.

I don't know for sure if they ever did it or not, but you should take some measurements and see if it would work!

What thread is on that piece you used to hold to the booster? On mine I passed an M6 rod all the way through, just a bolt and washer under the cap (no drilling). I was lucky to buy one of Chris' bearings which worked well for holding the Graflex clamp, but you can use a series of washers and bolts well placed along the rod to achieve the same thing (not as stable but works).

Or... you could just buy one of the replica bearings from Roman that he has currently in the JY and not have to worry about hacking anything off...

Which btw, since I own two of the flash hider cones I can tell you already that they are different from the bearings...

The only thing stopping me is the 3/8 16 Roman cone I superglued into the emitter :) I had this on all one of those rods, and now the emitter doesn't match the pommel. And my clamp has the tabs filed off lol, of course *facepalm

How different are they? The idea of cutting was to get the rib section too. I'd bolt that to a rod through my emitter and then screw that into my booster!

So here's what the booster/flash hider combo that you're getting looks like:

And here's what the cone/booster bearing looks like:

Essentially it *is* the flash cone with the cone lopped off... and yes... you would have to shave down the the threads a bit in order to make it fit into the balance pipe.

The problem then becomes how to attach everything to the grenade because the interior surface of both the bearing and the flash cone are smooth... unless you don't mind having a viable bolt head at the top of the cone.

Holy crap that was exactly what I needed thank you! So, i understand now, the other version is the bearing and cone all as one piece. WELL call me crazy but I don't want to stick anything in the balance pipe. I think...I'll see when I get mine, but I think I want to lop off part of the cone and stick this whole thing in the clamp...washer and nut on the back of the bearing and screw the booster/pommel section right on the back.

Screen Shot 2015-11-18 at 5.43.39 PM.png I just screenshot what I want to have left instead of photoshopping anything :lol

Nice set-up :) that seems really compact. My balance pipe already has a different threading inside it, so I have to do it a little differently - I assume that rod runs right through the grenade and to the emitter?

I have the 2 hardest parts left to find. Geeking out on this thread right now.

No... to thread through both the handwheel and the opening of the booster bearing, the rod required is a smaller diameter than what you would need if you're using Roman's cone adaptor. So I secured the grenade to the booster and handwheel assembly using another nut and washer and the original brass top of the grenade and secured the balance pipe to the grenade separately using a small bolt.
