Tombstone Val Kilmer / Doc Holliday Costume

We go to Tombstone every Labor day Weekend and last year they had cups that are pretty dang close. I have several authentic period ones that aren't perfect. One of the harder bits to find really. Actually got married down there last year. She has made all of her dresses bustle and all.
You are blessed indeed. I get lucky if my wife is willing to tag along, let alone participate.

Those dresses are wonderfully made:cool::cool:(y)(y):love: She's a keeper alright!!
Took her months lol. A day and evening dress and then ofcourse the wedding dress. I had the screen accurate holster hand made in Portugal by a chap who does western leather because I could not find anything remotely accurate anywhere else. He will be doing my cross draw too. Glad I stumbled onto this thread in my researching as I am not the only one interested in the details.

Thank you for your posts. There is always something to learn. I really enjoy seeing these props brought back to life. I have spent decades looking off and on for things before I realized many of the costumes were made. Peter's book does a good job of documenting what happened.
You are more than welcome my friend :) In all honesty, this is something that I just love doing even if no cared about it :) Pete's book is pretty good as it sits in my library for sure

LOVE your wedding photos  Makes me wish I would have done this :) When it comes to the Tombstone holsters you should check out my good friend Edward over at EJ Leather Works (on Facebook) as he has the original holster patterns from the movie (very long story) and his prices are FANTASTIC!

The first photo below is the actual screen used holster that Val wore in the movie and the second photo is of the holster my friend made :)

Dropped this the other day on my Facebook page.

Val's/Doc's 7th outfit from the movie Tombstone

We have now reached the 7th outfit we see Doc wearing and I think this is the most iconic outfit that we see in the movie. If you remember from my post on the 6th outfit, I stated that I think there were three iconic outfits that Doc wears, this one being the first and the 6th outfit (Shoot out at the O.K. Corral outfit) being the second. In my mind when I think of Doc, this is the outfit that stands out to me. It is a very classy outfit that just embraces Doc and his character.

The outfit in which I am talking about is seen right after the O.K. Corral shoot out has taken place. I'm not sure if it is the next day or a few days after the shootout as it is never discussed in the movie, but it is the scene where Ringo confronts the Earps in the street and Doc steps in. I like to call this outfit the Huckleberry Outfit and the outfit consists of these items.

Doc's Black Cowboy Hat

Doc wears a light gray bodied shirt that has a white bib, white cuffs and a white wing tip removable collar.

Doc's vest is a semi dark red satin/silk vest that has a diamond/square pattern with white centers. The vest has a notched lapel collar and four front pockets (two on each side) with a straight cut bottom. The vest has five flat silver buttons. The back of the vest has a gray satin/silk diamond pattern fabric with an adjustable belt with a silver buckle to secure a proper fit.

Doc's Cravat/Tie is a dark charcoal silk with a silver (maybe a light gray) square pattern. There appears to be small pattern in both the charcoal and silver squares. The cravat has a diamond stud tie pin.

Doc's pants are up for discussion as they are very hard to make out in this scene. I think they are a very dark charcoal wool frontier pant with a very light gray pinstripe with the stripes being pretty far apart. These could be black pants with the same pinstripes, but I tend to lean towards them being a very dark charcoal. The pants have black buttons for closure and for the suspenders/braces. They also have two frog mouth front pockets and no pockets in the rear. There is an adjustable belt in the back for a secure fit.

Suspenders are unknown as they are hidden by the vest. My guess is they are the brown suspenders that Doc wore at the O.K. Corral.
Boots are Doc's Black in town boots with the coffin toe. You can see these boots when Doc is getting his shave.

Doc wears his Black shoulder rig while confronting Johnny Ringo with his nickel-plated single action in the holster. Doc carries his nickel-plated Colt Lightning in his left hand which is hidden behind his back. Once Ringo is taken away by the Curly Bill and the Cowboys, Doc places the Colt Lightning is his front upper right hand vest pocket.

Doc wears a gold diamond ring on his right-hand ring finger.

Doc wears a pair of diamond stud cuff links with his shirt.

So, there you have it, Doc's 7th outfit as seen in the movie. Be on the lookout for Doc's 8th outfit which will be posting soon.

I have not found these patterns anywhere but am always keeping an eye out.
I have searched high and low for YEARS and have never found them either. This is why we are just going to have the fabric printed as it will be a VERY CLOSE second. I am using the patterns off the vest I originally had made as I don't think I can get any closer. Both the Red Vest and the Gold vest will be printed fabric, the other vest that Doc wore will be fabric that I have ran across that is really close to the originals.

LOL There are a lot of details that are difficult if not impossible to find being 30 plus years on and some of it was made for the film. I am going back to Tombstone this year and want to change up my clothes thinking the vendetta ride outfit of which I am having the same gentleman in Portugal who hand crafted my main screen accurate holster do the cross draw holster. It is laughable the few holsters you can find are touted as correct but are not even close. I am one of those do it right or do not so this is a struggle having to compromise on patterns and such elsewhere.

Oh, trust me brother, I know all too well about doing it right. I have had both holsters made from the actual movie patterns, had the movie badges replicated, and now I am going back and doing all of Val's Wardrobe. Hell, I even started a company because everything I was doing. We finished the Duster last year and new we are getting ready to start on all of Val's shirts.

Have a link to the duster?

This is where I bought my pants.......................... Frontier Classics Gunfighter Pant - Black - Men's Old West Pants | Spur Western Wear

Until we get the shirt made you can use either a white Tuxedo shirt or a white band collar shirt.

Vest are coming this year.

You will not be disappointed with the holster :)
I thought in the vendetta ride it was a gray shirt, black vest and gray trousers with the gray duster and black scarff? Yes, my two other outfits are black trousers with correct suspenders, period shirt, vest and cravat with town coat... Most came from frontier classics and wahmaker ect Hat came from Millers Hats years ago. I have a nickel 1873 taylor tuned and a cimmaron Doc Holliday bird heads grip both in 45LC but have not found a good lightning that was not stupid expensive or the right one yet. Still looking. Last time I was in Tombstone they had pretty good replicas of the cups finally. I had one similar from the late 1800s but the handle was not the same. Oh, this treasure hunt lol. Cuff links and jewelry is always a hunt too.

So, Doc's vendetta ride outfit consisted of these items..............

Doc's Black Cowboy Hat

Charcoal frontier/riding pants

White Band Collar shirt with a bib and French cuffs. This shirt buttons from the back of the shirt.

Black Frontier Sack Coat

Gray Duster

Silk Black & White Polka Dot Scarf

Black Tall Riding Boots

Cross-Draw Holster

Doc just carries his is Colt (really EMF) Nickel-Plated 4 3/4 inch barrel SAA pistol. The Colt Lightning is not carried on the vendetta ride; however, he does carry his double barrel shotgun.

I have attached photos of the ORIGINAL Screen Used Vendetta shirt for you

I also just confirmed that Elaine got your Duster and scarf order, so we thank you for your order :)

And now you know how I spend my days.....................

As for Doc’s cuff links during the vendetta ride, there not a lot of good photos of them, in fact this is probably the best you will see. You can tell they are a silver square and that is about it. I choose to go with these as I thought they would be something Doc would wear

Woah, I didn't realize the bib on his shirt was textured like that, that's really interesting!

Just out of curiosity, does anyone here know if these shirts that button in the back are historically accurate? I've never seen this style anywhere else.
