Tombstone Val Kilmer / Doc Holliday Costume

Fake facial hair (mustache/beard/side burns) are always tricky. Practice makes perfect as they say. Mix of a good glue, then applying little tuft of hair to the main mustache...some make-up and voilà. I guess it's easier to say then to do;)
There's quite a few models to choose from on Etsy.

I found the technique you described and this might be a bit easier than I thought. So the use of the prefabs has the one drawback of seeing the edges and that is the spot where the glue and strays comes in to cover the backing edges. Makes sense. Thank you!! Now to pick the central prefab and some matching tuft pack.

HOLY SMOKES THAT IS AWESOME!!!!! I have been wanting this jacket FOREVER, but with so much wardrobe to make we have to pick one piece at a time. AWESOME JOB my friend :)
Thank you so much! The jacket was definitely my favorite of his wardrobe items so I wanted to tackle that as soon as I could. Finishing it will be delayed a little longer since I had to order some different buttons last minute. In the meantime I'm working on the grey shirt with the diagonal striped bib front.

"Falling down the button hole." See you when you get back Alice.

You can always shave the lower part of your own mustache and keep the upper stubble/hair untouched. Then it's a game of blending your real hair with the prefab one...that could, not only, cut your work to a minimum, but also make your 'stache more natural. The problem with that technique is that you'll look like Guy William in Zorro:eek: ...and knowing that I'm on your wife's bad list, I'll surely not travel to Oregon soon:lol:

You don't understand how much worse you just made it. I have been threatening to do the Guy Williams Zorro ever since the Adam Ant mustache last Spring. This runs right up there with "if your friends jump off the bridge, are you doing it to?" I still remember how much it hurt hitting the water..... so, ya, pretty likely.

But this is a great method and I had never even seen it suggested anywhere before so thank you. I will definitely try this. It could easily eliminate the upper lace showing on a handsewn piece.

Funny you should mention that shirt, as this shirt is the next one coming up as it is on the on-deck circle. We are going to finish our John Wayne Rio Bravo vest (which is about 80% finished) then it is on to the Doc Holliday O.K. Corral shirt, followed by a lot of other Doc shirts since they are pretty much the same shirts with just a few changes here and there. Patterns and Fabric have been bought for all these Val/Doc shirts so we ought to pump them out at a pretty good rate  We are even going to throw in a Wyatt shirt or two as well since they are the same shirt with just different fabric. After the shirts are complete it will be on to the vest :)

Here is John Wayne's / Cole Thornton's Red/Orange shirt from El Dorado that we just did to celebrate our 1st Anniversary

Awesome! I'm especially looking forward to the vests.

Just finished my shirt, it's definitely not perfect but for trying to keep as many of my items as low-budget as I can I'm happy enough with it (especially considering most of won't even be visible under the vest and cravat). I really dislike making shirts (thinner fabrics and me just never really got along) so I always prefer to modify preexisting shirts whenever possible.

This was a $15 pullover band collar shirt from Amazon, and I just added the striped bib and the suspender loops (made from the chest pocket) and added additional buttonholes on the cuffs to accommodate cufflinks. It's a little more purplish of a grey than I'd prefer, but I really wanted to use cotton rather than linen and I was pretty limited in terms of the non-linen grey pullover shirts I could find, and the base fabric will barely be seen when in full costume anyway. Still need to pick up cufflinks and another silver collar stud and a detachable wing collar, so the club collar is standing in for now.

Still waiting for the jacket buttons, after that I probably won't work on anything else for this until the spring while I finish some other projects in the queue.

AWESOME JOB Brother  I have found both the gray (two different colors for two different shirts) and the blue fabric for Val's Shirts. I like that stripe fabric there as it is actually a little better than what I found. I always try to get as close as I possibly can, but sometimes you just have to settle on what you can find.

Thank you again! I was really pleased with the fabric I found too. Here's where I bought it, but unfortunately there are only 2 yards left so not going to get you very far for producing them in bulk.

Thank You Cameron1138  Some things are going to be limited quantity because I just can't find enough fabric, but for the most part everyone will be able to get something they like :)

Here is a post I did today on my Facebook page (John Holliday)

Val Kilmer's/Doc Holliday's First Outfit

A few posts ago I mentioned that I was going to do some post on ALL the outfits Val/Doc wore in Tombstone, so today is that day I start making these post.............
1f920.png
I plan on doing these posts in the order that Val/Doc wears them in the movie.
Here is the very first outfit we see Val/Doc wearing in the movie. It is from the very first scene where we see Doc playing poker with Ed Bailey. The outfit consist of these items.....................

1. Doc's famous black cowboy hat (which was made by Stetson)

2. Doc's tie is a Black Cravat with a diamond stud tie pin

3. Doc's shirt is a Bluish Gray shirt with a White Bib with a grayish blue and black diagonal stripe. Shirt has a white wing tip removable collar, and the shirt also has the same fabric color for the cuffs as the shirt. Doc wears this shirt in other scenes of the movie.

4. Doc's vest is a Gold Silk/Satin Vest with a Black floral print with silver flat buttons. The back of the vest is done in a black satin fabric with a very small diamond print. There is also an adjustable belt on the back of the vest to insure a proper fit. This vest can also be seen in other parts of the movie.

5. Doc' Pants are a black and charcoal pinstripe pant. The stripes (both black and charcoal) are about 1/4 inch in width. There are two frog mouth pockets on the front of the pants. The pants have suspender buttons and an adjustable belt on the back of the pants to insure a proper fit.
6. Doc's Jacket is a black jacket with the lower part of the lapel being wider than the top of the lapel. Jacket has two pockets with flaps that are on the side of the jacket and one right side breast pocket. Jacket has one slit on bottom of the back of the jacket (for movement) and a big pleat on each side of the slit. There are four metal buttons on the front of the jacket and two metal buttons on the backside of the jacket (above each pleat), plus three metal buttons on each sleeve. The jacket has the same lining on the inside of the jacket as the back of Doc's gold vest. EVERYTIME, you see Doc wearing a black jacket in the movie it is this jacket.

7. Doc's Boots are a black leather cowboy boot with a square toe (Coffin Toe). Shafts of boots are a normal height cowboy boot shaft. These boots are referred to as Doc's Town Boots.

8. Suspenders in this scene is unknown at this time, but they could very well be the suspenders Doc wears at the O.K. Corral????

7. Doc's Gun rig is a black shoulder holster with a very unique pattern on the holster and the left shoulder strap. Holster is made for a 4 3/4-inch barrel Colt (or clone) Single Action Army Revolver.

8. Doc's Knife is only seen for a brief moment during this scene as he stabs Ed Bailey. What we can see in the movie is the knife has a brass guard, and the blade is double edged. Handle cannot be seen as Doc's hand covers it. Sheath can only be seen in a blink of the eye, so detail is uncertain, but the color is definitely Black and appears to be clipped to his front pant pocket.

9. Doc's Pistols (which are the same ones carried throughout the movie). Doc's main pistol is a nickel-plated Colt (actually an EMF) .45 Long Colt Single Action Army with a 4 3/4-inch barrel. The pistol has white ivory one-piece grips. This is the pistol Doc keeps in his shoulder rig. Doc's backup pistol is an 1877 Colt Lightning (double action) in .38 Long Colt which is also nickel-plated. The Barrel length on this pistol is 4 1/2 inches and the grips are a white ivory two-piece grip. This pistol is kept in Doc's upper right-hand pocket of his vest.

10. Doc accessories consist of his nickel-plated pocket watch and watch chain, a pair of round silver cufflinks and of course Doc's famous tin drinking cup. Other items that can be included for your Doc setup is a deck of Pharo playing cards, clay poker chips and a whiskey bottle if you are going for the full effect (which I am

).

We at Hollywood Western Wardrobe plan to make all of this wardrobe as time goes by. Some pieces will be a VERY LIMITED run as this is based on fabric availability, and other pieces will be a one-off piece just made for my personal collection.

I hope you enjoyed this first post of Val's/Doc's wardrobe as there will be many more to come here in the near future.
