Tomb Raider Reborn

AmberLynette wants some as well (10-15) arrows worth. how many did you want lady? as i told amber it will take some time to get the right/best ones. each turkey only has about five arrows worth of good feathers for what you Laura's are looking for. it would also help if you through a really good pic of the arrows fletching so i can try and get the most accurate pattern.

Ask and you shall receive :)
These are both from the game models - just the first is 3D, while the second is a 2D flat render (you can see the 2D render's long edges are trimmed down in the 3D model).

so i am looking for tail feathers, cool and thanks. will update once i can get a hold of some... was also thinking that you could probably get four usable chunks from one solid feather... would that work for you TLN?

Just a quick note about the fetching feathers. Typically for archery stores, fletching feathers are gathered from the pinon feathers of turkey wings. They keep the feathers from the right wing all together or the left wing. The feathers on the wings get "swept" in the same direction. If someone were to mix them, the fletching could conceivably have a bit of wobble. Just a note, not sure if that helps. I personally have never gathered them myself and cut them.

Thanks for the note, Rue. Very helpful.

Now, are there wild turkeys in Texas? (Kidding, I'll Google it, but I need to try out these new broadheads anyways.)

That sounds fine to me! Did we ever figure out how many arrows carries in her quiver? I've got 5 in my quiver at the moment (though I was trying for 7, unfortunately I broke two of my rods...).

I still can't quite believe it.. but my costume is done.
There are still a few bits and pieces that could be added or altered but I guess it's enough for the con next weekend.

So. May I present to you: RastaLara!
(yeah.. that thing with the hairpiece didn't quite work, so... have sum dreadlocks for now)

..and I definitely need more dirt.

I am going to paint my walkies and I noticed someone posted that they used Humbrol #69 yellow gloss paint. Did you use the enamel or acrylic version? Thank you!

Was that to TheLadyNerd or to me?

Acrylic or enamel will work, but i tend to think that an acrylic would work better on the plastic of the 'talkies, :)

It was to anyone who knows the answer :). I think Ember originally wrote the post about painting her walkies though. I am going to San Diego Comic-Con on July 17th this year (only a week away!!) and I'm going to cosplay Lara Croft reborn. I absolutely love this thread. It has helped me so much. Unfortunately, I can't find the Timberland Charles Street lace up boots ANYWHERE. There is 1 pair listed on ebay right now in black and a sz 11 (which will not work for me :( ). I bought a ww2 shoulder holster because I thought it looked closest to something I could work with modifying. I seen you make some mention of guns. Do you know which gun she uses would fit into a 45 automatic shoulder holster without much modification (that is con safe)? You ladies/gents are the best!:D

Also, you were the one who weathered your holster I believe and you said you used browns/tans/black acrylic paint. Can you give any more detail as to the process you actually used to paint it on (ie:did you go for certain areas, mix the paints together or put each coat of paint on separately in different applications)?

How fortuitous that we should meet... I in fact used a WWII shoulder holster myself for my reborn holster!

There are three guns that are used throughout the game. The first is a USGI M1911A1 with wood grips. This very quickly gets replaced with a Beretta M9, also with wood grips (which in the game looks very like the 1911, hence the confusion between the two of them as to which she uses) and the third is a Remington 1911R1 Tactical pistol.

What size Charles Street boots do you need? I have two pairs...

I did in fact paint/weather my holster, belt and spare ammo pouch so that they would all match. To be clear, my holster already had a very good deal of weathering on it when I bought it, so i really just tried to match the belt and ammo pouch to it. I did dab a bit of paint onto the holster for continuity, but the bulk of the work was done on the other two pieces.

Since the holster was originally black but had lots of the brown and tan leather showing through in the cracks and scuffs on it's surface, and the spare ammo pouch that i put on it (along with the belt) were both lighter shades of brown, the first thing that i did was to take some black and dark brown acrylic paints and squeezed some onto a piece of cardboard. I then took a piece of sea sponge and dipped into the black and brown alternately and each time scraped most of the paint off of the sponge before applying to the belt and pouch. I lightly dabbed the mostly dried paint randomly so that here and there the brown still showed through the black and dark brown to mimic the worn look that i saw on the holster.

It's important to use this "dry brush" technique and do it a little bit at a time so that you gradually darken the leather and make it look random and worn rather than a uniform, solid colour.

If your holster is a medium reddish brown colour (as most are) then I would probably start with some dark brown and black acrylic and start dry sponging thos eon alternately in random blotches to darken and weather the surface. Then if it gets too dark you can apply light patches with some tan.

As for the gun--whichever one you choose to use (1911, Beretta M9 or Remmington)--just use an airsoft one. I don't know if the rules of SDCC insist on having an orange tip or not, so I'd leave that intact until you find out.

Well my Reborn costume will be lacking for the con. My father who was helping me make items is not well at all. He is in the hospital for the second time in a week. He has a bleeding spleen being prepped for a surgery with a specialist because his low lung and pancreas around covered with fluid. I won't have a bow, quiver, and arrows. I will just barely get the holster done and the weathering done. My dad is upset because this was our projecting to do has a dad and daughter thing and now he is very sick. Yes I'm very sad I won't be able to finish more but right now my dad needs to get better first.

Hi, yes looking through all the training-type guns it looked like the Beretta was the closest match to me. You are a wealth of knowledge, thank you!

I wear size 9, 9-1/2 and sometimes 10 depending on the shoe. This forum is completely awesome. I've been a "lurker" for some time now. I should have said hello sooner ;).

I decided to go with a WW2 Colt 45 shoulder holster which is the more reddish brown color. It is a reproduction and not an original so it will definitely needed to be weathered. Should I sand it lightly too? I can't wait to try this technique. I'll let you know how it turns out and put up a couple of pictures.

Yes, according to the website the SDCC is kind of vague on what you can/cannot bring but either way I'll play it safe. Thanks for the tip!
