It has always puzzled me as to why studios do not actively sell off anything they have no intention of storing or need for.
Take these shuttlecraft for example. They must have known there were plenty of people out there ready to sell their own children into slavery to get their hands on them.
The fact that they're left to rot does not make the excuse of "we're keeping them for future production" wash with me (as I'm sure it won't with most of you here).
Do they withhold them out of some for of petulant "If I can't have it, no one will" attitude? Or is there some legal reason why not? I find it that hard to believe as thousands of props change hand each year without any ramifications aside from the odd poor sap getting ripped off. Besides, the Christies Trek extravaganza kind of puts pay to that suggestion anyway. And further debunking of this is the Propstore and other smaller vendors. They seem to make a good living of acquiring and selling props.
I think the studios are missing out on a revenue stream.
