T'is the season! Luke's Holiday Special lightsaber!

Yea that’s them

I’m going to have to check them out at Lowe’s/home depot

The ones I install (and did last week) the gauge is way to thick. I never buy plumbing stuff from Lowe’s/home depot because they may be brand name (kohler for example) but they are sold cheaper there for a reason.. so I’ve never installed handicap bars from a box store and always used the ones from the supply house

Now I’m wicked anxious to check..

Dremel and a file if you're patient, tin snips if you're not. I even managed to cut 1/64" aluminum sheet metal with scissors once. (Didn't do the scissors any favors though.)

In either case you'll probably end up with some burring and/or uneven edges that will need filing down.

When I first saw your Canon Y with the cut pieces I tried it.. and failed!

Those we're all cut with a Dremel reinforced cutoff wheel, and the corners/edges rounded and cleaned up with a Dremel sanding drum.

We may have to go over your technique sometime. ;)

I think my dremelis from Australia-- all it does is fling debris in my face.

I was going to venture out for supplies to work on this since I'm off of work today buuuuut my city is shutdown. Current temperature -18 with a wind chill of - 40

Your Dremels have a low speed setting? I'm still using the Made in the USA model I picked up when I was a teenager, 18 years ago. It's got a very good variable speed control. Maybe that's causing a difference...

Oh yeah and here’s my bottom (of the saber)
For the shroud piece I’m thinking the dremel will work since I don’t have any good shears. We’ll see how that goes.

That turned out really great!
For those of you that have that type of endcap and want to attempt that, that looks like a totally plausible method of what they did.

If you have the other end cap, or don't want to mess with sanding it down, I'm making a small batch of them right now.

Very cool.

I’m definitely down for an end cap and shroud templates if you make some!

That’s exciting news about the red lamp.

this is pretty exciting to watch! Maybe I'll join in... maybe.. I have the flash

Anyone chuck their endcap in a drill or drill press and touch it to a metal file? I bet that would work

OKay so clearly with all this new info I may have to revisit my original for more than just the box.

I'm happy with my shroud... I lucked out at the time and Ikea had these outdoor lights that looked like the end of a graflex... I cut my shroud out of that with a dremel.

I should note I have fixed the bulb since this image where it looks wonky.

Trooper_trent Interested to see these bulbs... not dying to replace mine, but who knows?
