Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland Costumes

Just a quick note of my progress for the Rabbit Hole dress-
I thought I was done with the skirts, but visited FIDM again this Wednesday and realized I needed to re-do some of my embroidery :(
So this is how I've spent my Friday night-

Gorgeous! You've done it all by hand then?? I'm still planning this dress, too...at least, I have all of the fabric for it. Who knows if/when I'll ever get around to making it... I started Giselle from Enchanted YEARS ago and it's still sitting at about 20%. I think I need to move out solely to have my own sewing room...by bedroom just isn't big enough to sew gowns. XD

Aelynn
the blue coat lining is blue
that body form they have in that picture is just wearing one of the pink shirts and the lighting in the room makes it look Lilac

when you watch that feature they only change the coat on the dummy not the vest and shirt which is why it doesn't have the red vest on

Most of it is by machine-a friend's machine and pattern.
After going to FIDM again, I noticed some things that had to be changed-those changes are being done by hand.

Newbie popping. (Hi, SithsPadawan and One_Black_Balloon!) :)

What are you guys who are doing the Hatter's Battle outfit using for the distressing (I assume that's what that pattern is) on the blue coat?

I'm so awed by the stuff you guys do. Almost makes me wish I was doing 1:1 scale rather than 1:6! :)

Hello, hello! I'm pretty new myself, but everyone around here is super helpful and crazy talented.......and it's nice to not be the only newbie :)

Ya know, I too was going to ask what everyone is using for the distressed sections of Hatter. I've heard and seen a lot of organza being used. I bought a little chiffon to try myself, but I'm not sure yet. I might use a little of the raw felt I bought, as it matches my coat fabric fantasically....but I'm debating. I do have one unique idea up my sleeve, but we'll see :) I still have NO IDEA HOW TO ATTACH IT without looking like glue or stiches....

Have fun, and post some pics of what your trying/working on!

i found spray glue works
but i didnt put patches on the blue coat
i just used Duponi Silk
it kind of look distressed enough
though is a bit.ch to work with

Thanks for the welcome! :) Yeah, I'm wondering how hard the chiffon or organza would be to attach/distress for a small scale. I've thought about playing with scraps of silk from the coat, too, but I dunno. :unsure

Are you using silk? I think I've finally decided to use Dupoini silk in Nile Blue, but it's hard to tell in photos how accurate the color will be. *grr*

As for pics, I haven't started on the Hatter yet because I'm still collecting materials, but I've got the bodice almost done for the White Queen, though I always seem to find something to change or redo!:lol

I'm so glad you found fabric!
Keep us posted on your progress
:)
A section at Joannes carries a sheer stripe fabric that looks pretty darn close. 24.99 a yard but currently on sale for half off. It's a special order and buried in the draperies section but I DID copy the skew number. The lady told me it's a Joannes brand fabric but they just don't keep it in stock at the stores. For those still looking hope this helps.

LOL. Actually, it wasn't ALL that bad. It wasn't 5 bucks, but I didn't spend hundreds either. It will need a little modifcaion when it arrives. I based my look off of these refernce photos:
Hollywood Movie Costumes and Props: Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter costume from Alice in Wonderland... Original film costumes and props on display

I found that Fraser Ancient Hunting is pretty close, except for a few white lines. Of course, there's Fraser Hunting, Fraser Anciet Hunting, and Fraser Hunting Modern......and there seem to be a few variations around the web. In the long run, I'm not unhappy....not at all :)

I found this awesome fabric at Joann's and had to do something with it so bow tie it was... not screen accurate in the least but I love it anyways...

Hmmm...can't decide if I want to go hardcore and make Alice's red hearts dress for my Disney vacay next week or wear Giselle with Travis' Jack...opinions anyone?! D: ( we're staying at the Caribbean beach resort so that sways me to stick with pirates...but Alice is a little more recognizable than strumpety wench with 3 minutes screentime. :( ) decisions, decisions...
