Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland Costumes

beautiful! and i admire that you note it as 'really really close' to SA and not " TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY SA!!! " kudos on being humble! most admirable! ( though even if you weren't, you couldn't be faulted cause your work is so incredibly flawless and deserving of every praise! GAH! *_* )

i may have to try and get my hands on on of those
and yeah i envy you living in LA
i would have loved to go to the Elcap over and over to see the costume

As usual. Looking forward to seeing the pins man! I've laid this costume down for a while as I am too busy with Jack of All Trades to really do anything. But perhaps one day I'll get some time to myself. I've seen those pins up close and they are AMAZING!

Question, when embroidering the floral swirly design on the pant leg, how long is everyone making their stitches? I ended up pulling half my work out since the stitches looked too small. Many thanks for any pointers :)

I'm about half way done with my entire costume. Can't wait to finish this buggar!

I just went by the photo but made them larger than if I was stitching something up. I don't have my pants in front of me but if I were to give them a size I'd say bout 1/4 stitch. Sounds big but looks good on the pants. When I was done I used iron-on fusing to hold the stitches behind. Don't do the entire pant leg or you'll change how it drapes and it'll be obvious you used fusing. Just enough to hold the thread securely.

The first photo is the touring pants and mine are below. I made mine a BIT too wide as I still need to narrow down the legs to get that bell bottom flare.
Hope this helps.

I ended up matching the embroidery stitch for stitch as was shown in pictures of the costume from Comic Con 2009. The stiches were anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 inch in length and seperated between 1/8 to 1/4 inch apart. If you can just print out the image below and use it as a template. I have to redo the top part of my pants since it is wrong. There should be a leaf at the top.

Thanks for the info guys, it helped a lot! I also noticed that extra purple leaf at the top a few weeks ago, so I added it to the template I had. Since I have better specs on the stitching I'll probably bore myself with doing that tonight or tomorrow... LOL

AWESOME shot of the pants fabric and stitching! Great job on color matching your pants too.

You probably are just going to have to assume that they used the same ribbon piece for both versions of Hatter. I have some pics of the Battle Gear Hatter but none up close of the ribbons.

Here is the order of basic Hatter ribbon.

Your work is looking very good Richard...Very good indeed. :D

I still have some Hatter things I need to do A-SAP.....But school is taking over. Duwn wit deh bludy redd skoul!

Got my striped sheer for Um today!!!

As the ebay auction listed, it definitely is an off white...almost beige...but the stripes are definitely white and in contrast to the red and black fabric when layered, it looks just fine! Thank goodness.. As long as I don't layer or gather it too heavy it shouldn't be very noticeable. The fabric is perfect though and the size of the stripes is perfect too. I can put 5 white stripes in between every 2 black ribbons. :) ... yes, I'm insane, I know. Who COUNTS the stripes? o_O

I think the off white will be a little more apparent than I'd like on the bodice, however the bodice also has a pink gradient anyways so then again it may just be apparent on the back...which will be covered by hair anyways! :D

Here's a photo of it on top of the red/black...left is single and folded once over, inset is contrast on black, center is gathered ( the whole 120inches in a ball lol ) and right is contrast on a dirty white box...lol I think the black ribbon will help the contrast too. I'll probably make a mock up skirt and see if it's REALLY bad when it's all together and report back.

I may try to bleach a sample and see if it lightens up the off white a bit...so I'll post back after that.

But for $10 I think I can get away with it. If not, I'll keep on hunting since I have no deadline for Um and it's just a spare-time project. Oh, but it's also real drapery fabric so bonus points for authenticity. XD

I'm so glad you found fabric!
Keep us posted on your progress
:)

Does anyone know OR have photo refernce for the ribbon color/pattern order with Hatter's blue coat?

This is the reference I've been using :)

and the only good shot I have of the battle gear ribbon... it's pretty much the same really just a little more 'worn'.

ALSO - question for everyone... what color is the Hatters shirt in the flashback scenes? It almost looks like a plum purple or burgundy, but it's hard for me to really tell since the movie is a tad bit dark on my laptop screen (only way I could watch the DVD 'up close'). Right now I have a pink shirt, but it looks really off paired with my flashback coat.

Newbie popping. (Hi, SithsPadawan and One_Black_Balloon!) :)

What are you guys who are doing the Hatter's Battle outfit using for the distressing (I assume that's what that pattern is) on the blue coat?

I'm so awed by the stuff you guys do. Almost makes me wish I was doing 1:1 scale rather than 1:6! :)
