Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland Costumes

IIII think that it is infact some sort of moss or something along those lines to add to the effect that this guy has been out in the elements at a tea party for a decade, on all of the hats that were stuck on display its some kind of fabric, but on the hero hat it is definatly something either furry or organic.

It only appears on these two promo images albeit the second version is probably just a Photoshoped version of the first. I think they just added JDs hands with the tea cup. Everywhere else it doesn't appear. SDCC version had some but it looks like it was just quickly applied.

i defiantly think it was once part of the hat that is now sort of burnt off

and did anyone else notice that seam looking stitching next to the peacock pin
could that perhaps be a side seam that may or may-not exist

I've always thought that it was browned and weathered due to the fire. I think the combination of the embroidery thread and the ribbon also cause the fuzziness.

you are most welcome! btw I got extra lace for your pants so I can basically just do them for you when you send them to me to be embroidered.

AWESOME! Thank you very much! :D I'm hoping to find some even better pants soon, so it may even be a diffrent pair I send you. But I do plan to send you a pair, so thanks for keeping me in mind. :D Would it be easier to bell the bottoms of them out before or after you add the lace and embroidery?

I had a few bucks to blow at Jo Ann Fabrics, so I picked up some stuff for a little weekend project... now all I have to do is turn this....

there is atlease a half side seam and yup the back seam is at an angle but
not on a full on diagonal.

Charles.. i too think that cheshire cat furball thing over the ribbon is silk since almost everything else on this costume is

sorry ive been off the board for a bit..
but ive been keeping my hands very busy..
hopefully new pix in the next couple-o-weeks.

there is a side seam, i knew it

now is there one on the other side too??

and thanks Acme
i figured if anything it would be silk

and ok ok the back seam is at an angle
goodness XP

i just noticed something
you can see in the front of the hat on the inside where Johnny's makeup rubbed off into the lining

thats what i believe
cause i think the hat now is what was covered is a reddish brown silk before the massacre
this little bit kind of stayed on
cause if you see in the end of that scene the hat is still sort of smoldering

The hat he has before the attack of the Jabberwocky (the reddish one) and the one he puts on at the end (still burning and smoking) are definately two different hats for me, of course he could have put a piece of the same fabric he had on his own coat (the sheer fabric that is over the burnt silk, like Coleen said on his featurette) over it to add another personal touch, of course it could have ideally been the same hat, but that is a little stretch of imagination, of course the costume department made different hats, so, at the end, that it was really a piece of sheer fabric put there by someone who did the hat for the movie!:lol
And I was thinking at tulle fabric, because there are differend kinds of it, from the more "large" and sturdy to the very fine, delicate one...

But to be honest I was thinking at other fabrics too, like organza, chiffon or some kind of veiling...

I think a piece of organza or chiffon could do the trick:)

-EDIT-
About the spools, does anybody knows what shoud be the size on the screen-used ones? (in centimeters or millimiters preferably) Thanks:)

I don’t know if this has been covered (it probably has) but what did you guys use for the purply detailing on his coat? Thanks!

Does anyone by chance have a good photo of the thrown of the White Queen? The teal/ silver one? Ugh, I'm obsessed! :lol:lol

Wait!!!
Kelikala! Is that a big safety pin!?!?!?
Where in joanns did you find that?!?!?!

It's called a stitch holder and it's used in knitting! You'll find them with all the knitting needles and such right next to the yarn. They come in sizes from one inch all the way up to eight. This one is six inches. Perfect for holding all that ribbon. I'm going to weather it up a bit though with sandpaper and a slight mist of rust colored paint.

I also scored myself 50 threaded wooden spools so I can get to work on my bandoleer once they get here!

If anyone hasn't looked already, try digging around the website Etsy for your spools. I got these for $13.00 and there are many more lots left! You can also find antique embroidery scissors there as well. I had my eye on a set of three that were selling for $24.95 but someone else beat me to the punch. Needless to say, a Hatter would feel like a kid in a candy store over at Etsy.

From what I can see from the pics of the costume, these wooden spools varying in size from 1 to 1 1/2 (25mm to 40mm) approx... Is that correct?
So those are fairly small
