Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland Costumes

you know i actually think the handkerchief changes color with the rest of the outfit

I don't think so ... I know in the flashbacks it's blue but it's pink everywhere else. I'm not sure he even has it with the gray coat, actually ( he doesn't have the patch either ). But it's pink with the brown coat and with the blue coat.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I pitched the idea to Travis to do a clean hatter shoot before I aged the coat and cut the wig but he didn't wanna do it! LOL I guess his sentiments regarding long hair Hatter are the same as mine...which are " LOL ". xD

really , hadn't noticed

AWWWW!! TRAVIS!!!
that would have been cool too

i think i see the card there actually
like if you look real close at the right of the hat
you can almost see it

Yeah I did see that, I couldn't decide if it was the card or the hand and javelin of the white knight behind him! But I remembered the scene where it shows him picking up his hat and there are literally no adornments on it of any kind. it actually doesn't even look like it's the same band, there are no tails to it.

AND IIIIIII KNOW! maybe I'll just happen to not cut the wig in the near future and you know...just for fun...have him try it on and then BAM before he knows it I've got him in full young hatter costume! MUAHAHAHAH! I'm working on the wig right now...apparently it is heat resistant because this thing is NOT melting with the curling iron when I want it to! GRRR...

yeah he totally changes the band to the scarf later in life

and yes you must do that
cause it would be awesome

and you should try using a flat iron
or an actual iron

well it actually worked out in my favour! the non-melting thing...

I found out that putting it in braids and running a flat iron down them ( instead of hot water which took way too long to dry ) it changes the shape. :) kinda time consuming, but im almost done half the head. :D

its all waves right now...like a loose perm....but i think im going to throw some curls in there as well once its all cut to length. :)

I'm SO excited for our new wig...it's an amazing colour! I think I'm going to do a billion small braids in it and dunk it in hot water to give it the crimped look. If that doesn't work, I'll just melt it with a flat iron so it frizzes uncontrollably and permanently. >D So it better co-operate the nice way! I'm just a little scared of cutting it. I know I can do it, I just have an irrational fear of cutting of long lengths of hair...probably spawned from a really bad post-breakup haircut that made me look like a soccer mom. o_o

I saw what you have done so far :) Nice :) If you want less risk of melting a hairdryer will also heat and soften the fibres enough. I'm guessing you have a ceramic iron? That will help reduce the risk of melting too :)

Oh and a tip for cutting the wig: point. It's a cutting technique where you have the blades of the scissors nearly parallel with the hair rather than at right angles. You wind up with a more natural line and have much more control over how much hair to cut off/out. Google point cutting hair for lots of good images/videos. Razoring is good too but better with the right tools and scissors are much more readily available ;)

I made some progress on my Red Queen this weekend. I cut the red underskirt out and started working on the hearts. I'm not looking forward to the outer black hearts, but I'll be using my Cricut to cut the inner gold ones. I got my wig in the mail on Friday, just waiting for the wig dye to come. The netting is on it's way......I have the under gold fabric for the sleeves and the red ribbon. I also got the piping for the bodice.

I bought the Visual Guide to the movie on the weekend. It has a nice close up pic of the bodice that was helpful. I also found a bracelet that I already had that has the same jewels that are on the bodice. So far it's coming together nicely!

VERY nice aeylnn! :D So did you absoutly 100% make that coat, or did you use an existing coat as a base for it? (I can't remember, I'm sorry! :lol )

INCREDIBLY off topic but I think I'm going to re-make Perseus' Costume for Comic Con this year. Time to start jogging. . . . . .

I FIGURED IT OUT! I KNOW WHAT HIS BOOTS SAY!

"downal wyth bluddy behg hid"

"Its outlandish for "down with the bloody red queen"

YAYS!

Well as some of you know it was my 21 birthday yesterday
WOOOOO
so my parents got me a new sewing machine, The Singer Confidence ^^
it was more stitches than i know what to do with
but one was particulaly important for this costume
8 point stars XP

so now my hat is fully lined with the proper color fabric and design

in the pictures they just look like black dots
but if you ever see it up-close its pretty cool

really bugs me how this hat looks so straight at that angle

Nicely done, I actually just ordered some Pince Nez glasses to Make a few pairs myself. These are all antiques, but they are broken so I won't feel bad.

Padawan, NICE!!! *_*

Jodo, I made it from scratch. X_x No pattern either. I'm pattern illiterate. Actually, I'm not, but I just find them too annoying. I end up with pieces all the heck over the place and sitting on it and stepping on it and then my cat lays on them and its just a disaster! Thanks though! I can't wait to age it even though it looks so cute and pretty as it is. :( Travis calls it his smoking jacket...even though he doesn't smoke...lol

Soul, I LOVE THOSE! Ugh. I wish I was rich so I could buy all of your props from you. XD

mdb, Thank you so much for the wig tips!!! Yeah, I read that kanekalon doesn't melt until 210 degrees or something so I realized I can use my ceramic flat iron! What I'm doing now is just taking two pieces, wrapping them around eachother and running the flat iron down and they're coming out in these perfectly frizzy wavy twisty curls! It's time consuming but looks great! Thanks so much for the cutting tips too! That will definitely help!

OK folks! MH hat! I have pretty much extrapolated the best scale of the hat from pics. I come up with a brim of 2 1/2 inches wide and the crown at 11 inches tall. The diameter of the crown is going to be 25 inches. The top of the crown is going to have a diameter of 27 inches so that it will be about 1 inch on either side of the narrower end of the crown.

HOWEVER cutting the template in paper and looking at the scale the 2 1/2 brim looks HUGE compared to the 25 inch diameter headband! :confused I could reduce the headband maybe to 24 inches but it gets tight on the wig.

How have your dimensions worked out? Some of us have big heads while some of us have small heads! Still the 2 1/2 inch brim is the killer!!!!:cry
