Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland Costumes

Mee too chad...

since time is short i really dont wanna or can afford to make any mistakes..

I say we dub you CHAD HATTER till the movie opens.

anyone 2nd that? :thumbsdown :thumbsup :confused

HAHA Great minds think alike, I suppose! I think Chad called himself that way back in the beginning of the thread...somewhere... anyways, I second that! :thumbsup

now off to put the trim on my coat....yes, at 2:30 am. :D

Padawan,
OH! And I LOVE that little butterfly! ( Jeez. I 'love' a lot of ideas and photos people post here ) It's such a nifty idea and the fact that it looks like it's moving is sure to add a little magical touch to an already fantastical costume! *thumbsup*

@_@
yeah i thats what i thought, its a really flashy little thing too
ill post a picture of it later for fun

abd yes i did save some hair

i have brows that Chad made me so ill probably use those but i want to play with this stuff too

In an attempt to de-hijack CJS' thread, I shall post this here.

The devastating effects of flash ( mind you, this is indoors in a small space with only incandescent light ). :(

The trim on the pocket in the pic on the right is what it looks like in person. For some reason the red just bounces out with the flash! UGH! :( I know alll of the trim will eventually be pulled off and replaced with something that's actually bought in the right colour in the future. And the lining is purple like the right, not light periwinkle-ish like the left. >_< And yes, I still have to fix that rippley under-sleeve. And yes, I know the coat is VERY shiny at the moment...definitely will not be for very long. :love SO looking forward to the distressing!

hey does anyone have any burgundy upholstery remnant they can give me
if you dont need it that is

i cant do jack on my coat without it and i dont have cash to go buy fabric just for the edge fluff

sorry cant help you out there, but chenille yarn looks super close to the SDCC exhibit. or eyelash yarn if you want it a bit more stringy. it's quite cheap at about 5-7$ a ...skein? roll? ball? pack? a lot less worry of it fraying too much over time as well, though i've never tried using edges of remnants...it just seems like a concern that might be valid.

im still looking for some
i just hope i can get a good job so i can actually pay to do this
this is probably one of the most elaborate costumes ive ever made on such low funding

and the thing with the Chenille is that the Pattern i drafted for my coat requires me to actually stitch the fuzziness into seams
so without something that resembles piping i cant put the coat together
i dont even have money for the lining of the damn thing

i hate this economy

AAAGH!

MY FRIENDS HAVE ACTUALLY CALLED ME THE CHAD HATTER BEFORE!

I agree emphatically. Should any of you meet me in person I expect to be greeted in this fashion!

At first I wasn't interested in his costume, but what really turned me on to it was the redballs coat. It's not 100% accurate but it's a really nice coat, then I started looking at the other details and it is just one fascinating costume.

first time ive seen this
not bad actually
did a great job
just wish there were more pictures

WOW!
They look incredible!!! The material he used for the coat is amazing, I love the sheen to it. That guy's definitely got the facial structure for Depp costumes...lucky him! Agree in wishing there were more pictures though. I think those contacts are similar to the ones I ordered...I hope...they look that good! This makes me so happy to see that I almost wish I could just stay home today and work on mine instead of get fancy to go out for a nice dinner. :lol

Just wanted to add a couple things, too...

In the newest Mad Hatter clip, check out the moment he says " I used to hat the White Queen, you know. " The coat definitely has a sheen to it, it reflects and the light moves off of it as he stands! I don't think it's as satiny as what I used but it's definitely something with shine...I have no knowledge on textile names other than the basics. lol

I suppose most who've seen the exhibit would know this a little better, but I didn't so seeing the coat in action and how the light moves on it is great for me. :D

Also, the Clover pin cushion ring is almost identical to what he wears in that it's oval rather than round.

yeah
i just wish i could find pictures of his whole costume
he totally used velvet for the coat though
though i know that's not what its made of
but its the right blue and had a lovely sheen like you said

Hey, The answer to my question is probably on here somewhere but, "where did you get the pins on the hat at?" My wife and i are looking to do one of these costumes by halloween. THanks

Nick, somewhere deep down inside, a twisted part of me would kinda like to see you try that. :lol

I realized today that I hadn't taken any pictures with the new hat on, so you get a better idea of just how huge it really is. It was a day for some good light as well, so I took more pictures of it. I'm done with this sucker, I don't want to touch it anymore! haha (but I'm sure I'll find a reason to anyway)
But knowing I've finally gotten the most challenging piece of the outfit out of the way, makes me feel more at ease about making the rest of it. It'll be refreshing to finally start working on something different.

CHAD I WANT TO SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your other hats were an AMAZING shape too, nice and curvy and lean...with the correct colour and embroidery placing I know you are going to send these boards into a jealous tizzy! @_@... even though I was pretty jealous before, too. DARN YOU FOR MAKING ME WANT TO REMAKE MINE BEFORE THE MOVIE! I HAVE NO TIIIIMEEE!

... especially since I slept in til 2:30 today...

BUT! I woke up to a nice surprise! Travis' new wig is here!! I was so nervous about it because it was listed as 'copper brown'. When I opened the package my heart SANK cause it was more brown with a hint of copper...and then I took it out of the cellophane and the way the light hits the wig changed the colour immensely. It's unbelievable ( the difference and the colour ). I could NOT be happier with it. I've got two routes to style this bad boy:
1) lots of tiny braids and dunking it in hot water
2) 'melting' it with my flat iron since it doesn't really melt as much as it goes permanently squiggly, which would actually be great for the hatter. :lol

Here's a comparison:

In person, the wig is a SMIDGEN darker than that photo so it's even closer than it looks for colour. *_*

The bangs are perfect too since they have a curve...I just need to trim them off, glue'em to a strip of felt and I've got exactly what I need for the eyebrows in the already perfect shape! The only minus to this wig is that the skintop is JUST the center piece so I have to be a bit creative with the center part but that shouldn't be too hard as I've dealt with that before anwyays. And Travis will have his hat on 99% of the time. And he's pretty tall so no one will see the top of his head anyways. :)

Good luck to all! Today is my day of working like a mad man to get as much accomplished as humanly possible.

Chad, pictures! @_@ If you survive the embroidery process 'til the end! Good luck to you especially lol

Also, does anyone know if the burgandy/purple trim thats down the side seam under the arm goes ALL the way down, or just from the pocket down?

...

OH MAN!!!

I AM DYING HERE!

Hatter with long hair... TOO FUNNY!!!! AHA! AHAHAHAHAHAHHA! AHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH! :lol

What a fierce, happy little fella he....was...

I SO called this is in that smidgen of hair I spotted in the hat pickup screenshot. Also note he decided to upgrade from a blue to pink handkercheif. And the hat in its original state had no gold stitching, card or hatpins. I like these shots though, they give a nice clear look at what the shape of the hat should be! Which is unfortunately is a little bit taller and skinnier than what mine is...but it's close in shape! So Huzzah to that!

my dear sweet child is nearly complete.

I ran out of dyed trim before I could decorate the cuffs >_<

It's so pretty it almost makes me want to make Travis be pre-dirty Hatter...but I just can't deal with that long hair. LOL and besides, the hat is already 'aged'.

Here's a looksie...

On to the buttons!! I've found some fabulously suitable ones in a giant box of spares under my moms bed. Woo hoo for not buying them! :D

It's been quiet here today...I'll have to assume everyone is working hard and that there'll be some amazing progress pics popping up in the next few days!
