The Wonder Years

While I also love the Wonder Years I think some of us are simply being nostalgic for the first couple of seasons. The last season or so really weren't all that good. It did drag on a year or so too long.

I mean let's face it, when you think of the Wonder Years do you think of Kevin working in his Dad's furniture store? Do you think of Wayne dating a woman who already has children? Do you think of Paul without glasses? No, we all think of that charming show about a little boy, his girl, his mean brother, and his nerdy friend.

I wouldn't mind having the first couple of seasons on dvd but that's about it. But still, one of the all time great shows!!

I dunno... some of the great stuff to me is Kevin growing out of those younger years... Paul not fitting in with Kevin's group anymore... Giovanni Ribisi's character... the Chinese food delivery job episode was one of my favorites...

Guess I'll see when it comes around.

Many early season episodes were very memorable but the later years had lot of gems too. I too remember the Chinese food delivery episode very well, another one of my of favourites was Kevin and Paul playing basketball late till dark, the finale of course was kinda heartbreaking for me.

I think I prefer the later episodes. Things seemed to open up more once Kevin got his drivers licence. Two episodes that I remember fondly are the one where they go on a road trip to find the Rolling Stones and the one where Kevin almost buys the little frog eyed Sprite from Alice's dad. I also liked the friends that they introduced into it in the later episodes.

Netflix is the next best option, but no way I want to watch the episodes with changed music, which despite what was promised has been reported as having replaced music in some instances, including the opening credits song. It's not by Joe Cocker.

During its original airing, the different seasons did have different cuts of the same song, but it was still the Joe Cocker version, which is apparently not the case on Netflix right from season 1.

I read online earlier today how Freaks and Geeks creator Paul Feig waited until he was able to secure the rights for each and every song that was originlly featured in the show and only then he got the DVD set released. And that is the approach The Wonder Years should have got for Netflix, but thankfully that is coming true for DVD, which is good enough for me now.

"Since word got out that we are releasing The Wonder Years on DVD, we've been flooded with fan questions. Here's the behind-the-scenes scoop, straight from our production team:

How soon can I get The Wonder Years?
We are expecting the collection to start shipping early fall. We'll send out an email when the date is confirmed. Fans will have the opportunity to pre-order, confirming their place as one of the first to receive the collection.

How many DVDs and episodes will be in the set?
We are releasing all 115 episodes on an estimated 20 DVDs. The number of DVDs may increase depending on the amount of bonus features we are able to create and acquire.

Will it be released on Blu-ray?
We do not have any plans for a Blu-ray release at this time.

Can you tell Winnie that I love her?
She already knows. ;)

GRR.

I hate watching standard def! It's like viewing through the bottom of an ashtray!

I am made to suffer...

Oh well... I will watch the choir episode where chaos erupts after the kids voice changes mid-song, and all will be alright.
