The Video Game Thread - anything and everything...

Sadly, Still EA. I thought I'd had them sworn off for sure, but I was recently tricked in a moment of weakness by almost universally good reviews of fallen order. I bought it, and it is one of the single most terrible experiences I've ever had in gaming. Seems like anyone willing to review an EA star wars game is a big enough star wars nerd that they can't bear to give it garbage reviews. Never EA. Never Again. :(

I didn't like the reveal. There might be some games a lot of people are looking forward to but I have to say that there's nothing that get's me. They not even announced the price. Just showed a trailer of a Spider-Man game which isn't even a new game just the bad Arkham clone from the PS4 with some DLC.

How about a 2nd re-release of GTA 5?
Originally released in Sept of 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360, then re-released for the current gen. Only to release it for a third time... 7 years old and still no single player DLC. No thanks!

I liked Fallen Order enough. I at least thought it was a step in the right direction.

What I've been wanting more than anything from a Star Wars video game is the return of the Rogue Squadron series in VR. If this game offers something like that, I'll consider it. But it's EA so I'll remain realistic in my expectations.

My guess is that it will either be the Battlefront 2 flying made into a standalone game OR it will be an extremely dumbed down game similar to X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter. Either way it will be multiplayer (EA - $$$$$) and I will have zero interest in it. Disney/Lucasfilm is not listening to fans in any way shape or form because SW game fans have been consistently asking for KOTOR 3, a new X-Wing/TIE game, Dark Forces/Jedi Knight, Republic Commando 2, Empire At War, etc. Instead they will try to ram Sequel crap down our throats.

Fallen order being a "step in the right direction", may be true, but it's also like saying "I only had uncontrollable bloody diarrhea for TWELVE hours straight today, rather than the thirteen hours I spent having it yesterday!"

Sure, it's better, but they'll both make you beg for death.

Problem is, the titles aren't up Disney or LFL. They sold the rights to EA to make games, so EA gets to make that call. I'm sure Disney/LFL have some veto power (you can't do that type stuff), but no 'you will make this game' power.

There's hope with the success of Fallen Order that they'll make more single player games with no real in game purchase crap. They're doing a FO sequel.

However, it EA we're talking about so i don't give them much credit at all for recognizing what people actually want.

MEH.

I want an open world Star Wars game of similar caliber to Skyrim with gorgeous graphics, and the ability to play cooperatively with my husband (not necessarily online because the vast majority of people SUCK). Give me STORY. Give me the ability to create my own character to inhabit the modern Star Wars universe I love.

XvT was...ok. There was way too much reliance on missiles, but they added a couple of things that were a nice touch like the pre-set throttle controls mapped to the joystick hat. (if you had one) Other than that, the base game was a barebones garbage game that I barely ever played. Balance of Power, though, was awesome. I loved teaming up with a buddy to play those missions. I'd play the hell out of a game like that. It might be fun to have a multi-crew craft like the Falcon, too, but then turrets in games like that practically require voice comms or you just end up with someone drunkenly slewing through space screwing up your shots while they line up their piddly single laser or something.

Battlefront 2's flying was the best part of the game...but they need to add HOTAS support to the game and force in-cockpit views.

And aside from that...I'd be pretty leery of EA after how badly BF2 was handled. BF2 improved over time but the "live service" was dumpster juice.

Honestly, I really enjoyed Fallen Order. Granted, I went into it with really low expectations, but I enjoyed the environment and such. I do wish they had a true New Game + mode to play, but otherwise I don't have too many complaints about it other than kinda wishing there was more of the game to explore.

90% of my time on BF2 was in starfighter. Even though they didn't update it for 3 years. So I'm very hopeful about the new game!

I loved SA, but the lack of support killed my enjoyment. That plus the fact that there's really only, like, 3 good maps: Ryloth, Kamino, and Fondor. Death Star Debris is ok-ish, and the ST era maps are really not fun. Probably due to the lack of bombers.

So it was just announced WB are making a lord of the rings mobile game, this is in addition to the Gollum centered console game that is slated to come out in the next year or two, my question is, why don’t they scrap both of them and give us a middle earth/lotr open world skyrim like/RDR 2 like game. Take two to three years and all the money you would sink into both these ideas and blow us all away with an incredibly detailed open world Lotr game, just an idea.

I'd wager it's something to do with the fact the other 2 are cheaper. Being 15 years post films, they probably want to see if those generate enough interest to go further.

I'm always down for another LOTR game. Maybe the Amazon show will generate interest for one. As for the mobile game, probably going to be another Marvel Strike Force/Galaxy of Heroes clone (which they themselves are clones of other games).

I truly fear Amazon’s lord of the rings may spiral into something like Disney’ Star Wars. Milking a franchise dry and packing it full of all the new age pc garbage Hollywood has been putting out. However I am optimistic, maybe they’ll show some restraint...

It looks like the game is on pre-order for only $39.99. I wonder if they're just reusing their BFII assets to make a so-so campaign and keep the multiplayer the same. I was really looking forward to this game, but it the trailer just didn't do it for me.

Oh don't you worry. It'll be terrible (y)

Yeah I thought the same. This better be more than a glorified dlc of the BFII flight combat. That price tag scares me. It has micro-transactions written all over it.

The game does have VR though so there's that.

They're going to show a game play demo on Thursday. We'll see.

I keep seeing people who say this and I just didn't have that experience. I really wanted to like it because it looked and sounded amazing, but as a kid who loved Rogue Squadron on the N64 and Gamecube I just couldn't wrap my head around the handling and kept flying into things. Never got used to the dual stick controls for flying.
