The Ultimate X-Wing Pilot Thread

This is the vest adjustment buckle. I only have a few left.

Gah, sorry, I shouldn't post when tired. Yes I linked to the chestbox one, not the flak vest.

Move along, move along.

It is time for me and a friend to get starting with this costume, for real.

Does anyone have a correct pattern for the flak vest?
I once read on this board that the original flak vest had been found, so a 100% accurate pattern could (theoretically) be made.

Thanks.

I sold off my pilot suit a while ago, but am starting up on it again.

Anyone got a helmet kit / chest box laying around that you're looking to get rid of? :)

This is an awesome thread... there were a bunch of things not quite right on my old suit, and this will go a long way toward making things better this time.

I don't have any chestboxes laying around, but these are all made to order. PM me if you need further info.

I have the tube for the hose, but wasn't fortunate enough to get one with an attachment. Any suggestions for what to use on the end and what/where to clip it to the flightsuit or belt?

I just received one of Mansugi's chest boxes and I love it. Much better than the one I previously had, which wasn't exactly bad.

Kudos to you.

I have heard people gluing a washer to the end of a connector and sewing a super-strong magnet into the inside of the flight suit.

Home Deopt, sprinkler section, black elbow.
Screws in to the hose (wont have to glue it)
Get good magnets, glue one in the elbow, and have the other one handy to stick on the inside of the suit.
;)

I like that you have got the details right. Molded-in edge trim. Rivets in the correct places. Mohawk not too high. Great work! :thumbsup

Did you do the visor also?

I hope that you will be offering these. There is always demand for X-wing pilot helmets. There might be TIE pilots interested also.

i just got a costumebase x wing suit myself. like the review a few pages back, i was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the suit.

the lower leg pockets being missing don't bother me... i'm only 5'9" - the lower pockets end up in my boots anyway :)

the vest isn't particularly accurate, but i think it can be modified to be decent with much less effort than making one from scratch.

to start, i shortened the shoulder and chest straps to fit it better to me.

i'm going to get the proper insertion locks and straps and add them in to clean up that part of things. i'll probably stitch in some detailing on the shoulder straps as well.

adding some tubing or rope to the vest to bulk it up will be easy enough. the pockets stitched in look to be about the right size, and unlike the 2 vests i've made myself, they are all consistent widths :)

i'll probably use rope, since the tubing always makes the vest stick out at strange angles.

i did the "best offer" purchase and got the suit for a lot less than the normal buy it now. i offered $50 and it was accepted, so my total shipped cost was $78.

for $78 i think it's an EXCELLENT base to work from.

Cheaper than I paid for mine, but then again mine was all custom. But glad you're happy, because in the end that's all that matters!

flak vest aside, what did you think of the quality of the suit? I've heard something about it being rather thin.

If I got the costumebase I'd switch out the flak vest entirely, so do you think the coveralls themselves are worth the $78?
