The AS handwheels are also different - flipped cubes on the Chronicles, factory-correct on the Tunisia.
Yes Chaim it came with the red led’s. I wasn’t aware that the frosted one had been identified as the correct variant, so that’s good to know. Thanks Jediseth for that revelation, it's a shame the going rate of some of these parts go from a kidney to a liver . . . c'est la vie I suppose . . .
Scruffylooking ... please, please tell Juan to keep that No.3 MK I grenade as is ... don't blue it or whatever ... just add that beautiful NOS BP and a D-ring and be satisfied, okay?Great choice on the TI-Exactra 20* all round bubbles-strip ... were there any red leds underneath?
Recently I have been informed that the all round bubbles are not only slightly bigger but a tad taller in height than the ones with flattened sides :

Now if you pay close attention to the details of the bubbles-strip on the Chronicles/Mechanismo picture of the prop, you can clearly make out the all round bubbles :

Here's a slightly darkened close-up to enlighten this :

Now here's catch22 ... I was told that not every Exactra 20 contains the all round bubbles, so that remains a gamble, now according to the info I have on the Made in Italy TI-2000 chances of finding all round bubbles inside may increase significantly(PrinceZip please correct me if I'm mistaken).
So if you want to have/build the most screen-accurate Obi-Wan ANH lightsaber, those larger all round bubbles from an Exactra 20 or TI-2000 calculator are the ones you're looking for.

Now don't blame me what this revelation will do to the current value of those calculators ... I'm just glad to be here to tell you these things ... don't plug me into the hyperdrive!

P.S. More info on the all round vs flattened sides bubbles can be found here : Lightsaber Calculator Bubbles NEW DISCOVERY!!! ... please disregard the typefont in all CAPS![]()
I realize this, but that could just come from assembling parts in the wrong way. It is not conclusive proof of two different props. (Although I admit that sink knobs typically come in sets of two.) And I realize that the grenade in Tunisia has the neck for the wind vane screwed in to the wrong end. These two things have been known for a long time, but some people say it could be the same set of parts just reassembled differently and other people say they are two different sets of parts on two different props. (More to follow in my next post.)The AS handwheels are also different - flipped cubes on the Chronicles, factory-correct on the Tunisia.

I guess the cat's out of the bag for the bubble strip.
I don't have too many references for the Tunisia saber, but I think there's a good chance the bubble strip on the Chronicles and the Tunisia are actually one and the same.
That said, some parts (grenade, clamp, and booster) are most likely different between the two hilts.
I guess the cat's out of the bag for the bubble strip.
I thought that was fairly common knowledge...
But compare the photos in the two posts that I quoted above. James Kenobi 1138 pointed out that you can see through the bubble strip on the Tunisia saber and you can see the internal parts of the Graflex clamp. Sym-Cha showed a close up of the bubble strip on the Chronicles saber and it looks frosted to me. In other words, you cannot see through it to the internal parts of the clamp. My point is that these look like two different bubble strips when you consider that one seems more transparent and one seems more opaque. We know that both variants of Exactra bubble strip exist.
If they are two different types of bubble strips, I’m leaning toward at least two complete props.
Have a look at the frosting on this bubbles-strip in a TI-2000 :

... eventhough it's frosted, you can still see a bit through what's underneath it ...

The Exactra 20* seems a bit more frosted to me ... eventhough I'd imagine that plastic bubbles-strip to be manufactured in the same factory and then imported into the Made in Italy TI-2000 calculator.
Now compare this with the clarity of a clear bubbles-strip from an Exactra 20 :

The next picture shows a 'replica' Obi-Wan ANH Tunisia style lightsaber, with MkII grenade and a clear bubbles-strip, between the original prop saber(s) ... (second saber from the top) :

The clear bubbles-strip is very see-through as to the details of the G R A F L E X clamp beneath it. Eventhough I do realise the Tunisia lightsaber picture is an enormous blow-up :

... the same as the Toe-Pic for Luke's ANH lightsaber ... to me the bubbles-strip in both the Tunisia and the Chronicles seems one and the same, however until we get more clear and higher resolution pictures of the Tunisia 'variant' . . . it's still possible the bubbles-strip was replaced during shooting on different locations studio vs outside ... or even that there were 2 props made of Obi-Wan's ANH lightsaber
To be continued . . .

I have an Exactra 20 with a frosted strip and straight edged bubbles if that matters at all!Sorry, I should have clarified that I'm not just going by the the transparency or lack of transparency for the bubble strip in the Chronicles photos. Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I thought it was established in that link upthread that only fully-round-bubbled versions of these bubble strips have the frosted bubble strip, and only the clear bubble strips have the straight edges on the bubbles. Since you pointed out that the Chronicles photos show fully-rounded bubbles, I concluded that the Chronicles bubble strip is frosted. Since James Kenobi 1138 pointed out in a different thread that the belt-hanger photo from Tunisia looked like a fairly transparent bubble strip (so you can see the clamp insides), I concluded that the Tunisia saber has a bubble strip with straight edges on the bubbles.
Diego86 ... go back to Page 1 ... and read my post #12![]()
This picture, as seen above, was published in Harry Harrison's Mechanismo, which ultimately set me on my quest to track down the same parts as used in 1976 for OB1's ANH lightsaber ... so for me it's been quite a journey, which started a long time ago . . .
![]()
That said OB1's lightsaber is still a pretty good story to tell my friends and relatives about, who are unknown of the origin of the seperate parts ... for me it's the #1 lightsaber :

I feel like there's a few more posts like this coming, but here's mine!
After about a decade of hunting and searching and trying to replace replica parts little by little, I've finally finished my real parts saber.
Special thanks to Diego for the balance pipe, and to Andy for the hand wheel! Also thank you to everyone who has helped along the way, especially Chris and Scott for pointing me in the right direction!
Everything else has been found 'in the wild' by me, and I'm happy to finally be able to call this done, till I find better transistors that is![]()
The graflex clamp is actually the only remaining part from my original Obi saber I built when I was in highschool. I had a resin handhweel, a Parks grenade, Romans aluminum booster and a Russ balance pipe.
It's pretty surreal to have it finished, so here are some quick photos from tonight when I finally got the last part in.

I’m no genius, but all you stated is that the lightsaber was published in Harry Mechanismo’s book. Aside from being printed in the Star Wars Chronicles book I was curious about the photos origins as well. I’m assuming it came out of Lucas Film archives for one of the props used in the movie. Many have allured to that fact, but still like Diego it’s unclear to me.
