The Ultimate Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi Real Vintage Parts Lightsaber Group

There's already a chamfer on the other side, but I don't have a tool to make them nicely countersunk so I generally keep them flipped like on the other picture. Let me know if you think flipped are more accurate ... always good to have a second opinion for these things :)

As for the rest of the real parts ... I never seriously considered it before , but yeah, if you could do it just for three months then maybe it would not be totally impossible for me to collect them over few years I guess.

In my opinion they look better the way you just showed me. Look at the picture I posted of the referance photo. They don't go to a point like the way the airplane washers floating around these parts do. I think fliping them is best, if you wanted to you could use a small file and take your time and make a chamfer but you'd need to be patient. Yes I totally think you could get all the vintage parts in a few years. You'd have to be willing to pay what they are worth. I've learned something about this hobby, eventually everything shows up.

Here is a post of where I keep my Obi saber, under the TV stand. Next to it is my extra Exactra calculator. I wanted to show off that I have as stand for it. I know several guys here have been looking and asking for a stand including me for their calculator. This is a great cheap option fits the calculator and looks nice. I'm sorry in advance if this is an inappropriate place to put this link, but I thought it would be nice to share and help a brother out.

I got mine through Amazon

I started this journey of aquiring the parts to build this prop on the 9th of December, almost three months later I have finished my all real parts Obi-Wan Lightsaber prop. I have many people who I would like to thank who helped me in getting these parts. I'm very happy and excited to own such a wonderful piece of history.

Beautiful Seth! Hoping to unveil my parts soon...

I love my Roman’s replica but this thread is inspiring me to start the part collecting journey. I genuinely don’t even know where to start. I’m hoping the old adage “a journey of thousand miles begins with a single step” is true. Obviously certain parts will just have to keep my ear to ground and jump on any opportunities. That being said does anyone have a recommendations for some low lying fruit?

It’s a rewarding journey that’s for sure! I would say for the majority of people it would be the bubble, clamp, and AS hand wheel, but you could get lucky and score one of the rarer parts first.

Well there’s an Exactra 19 calculator on EBay right now. The other major parts, nothing that i know of at the moment, but be patient everything eventually pops up. Good luck, it’s way worth the patience and expense.

Well I’m ready to share my (almost) complete parts vintage Obi parts. I was fortunate to be in a position to acquire all the pieces for a build here in the Junkyard couple of weeks back, thanks to MOËT19 for his beautiful parts. All that was missing was the elusive female BP. Luckily an opportunity came along right away with the discovery of the fifth correct engine. I was all set to snag one of these but managed to find a NOS one instead, a bit closer to home. These parts will be sent to Juan for a Chronicles build. I’m really excited to see how this turns out and wanted to share my joy with you guys. Anyway, I’ll let the pics do the talking.

Woah I didn't realise another engine had been found. Do you mind me asking the ballpark figure for the balance pipe?

I’m going to announce this because I’ve had nearly a dozen messages or more between here and Facebook. That way anyone reading this will know, I paid $7500 for my female balance pipe. That’s about the going rate right now. The offer on the 5th engine was $8k a piece per female balance pipe, definitely high, but because of recent activity in recent past months it’s not outrageous. The first one offered had some light damage and I was able to get him to sell it for $7,300. As far as I’m aware the rest of the female balance pipes went for $7500. I highly doubt the price of these will go down. Graflex 3 cell flashes are a dime a dozen comparatively speaking. You can find 3 on EBay at any given day yet they sell between $500- $700. Real balance pipes are not common and the price won’t go down from here on out. The price may go up depending on supply and demand. Besides if they did go down I’d be buying them up. Lol
Too many of us have invested a high dollar amount, mixed with the rarity it’s not going to go down in value. Now those who read this know the price of a female balance pipe.

Awesome! Congratulations on this completed saber, Jediseth!

Thanks Jediseth for that revelation, it's a shame the going rate of some of these parts go from a kidney to a liver . . . c'est la vie I suppose . . . o_O

Scruffylooking ... please, please tell Juan to keep that No.3 MK I grenade as is ... don't blue it or whatever ... just add that beautiful NOS BP and a D-ring and be satisfied, okay? Great choice on the TI-Exactra 20* all round bubbles-strip ... were there any red leds underneath?

Recently I have been informed that the all round bubbles are not only slightly bigger but a tad taller in height than the ones with flattened sides :

OB1 - Bubblestrip Exactra 20.jpg

Now if you pay close attention to the details of the bubbles-strip on the Chronicles/Mechanismo picture of the prop, you can clearly make out the all round bubbles :

OB1 - LIGHTSABER - OBI-WAN KENOBI - ANH - CHRONICLES - TOM JUNG PHOTO AUCTION at Invaluable do...jpg

Here's a slightly darkened close-up to enlighten this :

OB1 - LIGHTSABER - Bubblestrip.jpg

Now here's catch22 ... I was told that not every Exactra 20 contains the all round bubbles, so that remains a gamble, now according to the info I have on the Made in Italy TI-2000 chances of finding all round bubbles inside may increase significantly  (PrinceZip please correct me if I'm mistaken).

So if you want to have/build the most screen-accurate Obi-Wan ANH lightsaber, those larger all round bubbles from an Exactra 20 or TI-2000 calculator are the ones you're looking for.

OB1 - These are not the droids.jpg

Now don't blame me what this revelation will do to the current value of those calculators ... I'm just glad to be here to tell you these things ... don't plug me into the hyperdrive!

P.S. More info on the all round vs flattened sides bubbles can be found here : Lightsaber Calculator Bubbles NEW DISCOVERY!!! ... please disregard the typefont in all CAPS o_O

I believe on the Obi Saber the bubbles were clear with the flat edges.

In the pic posted above, the photograph was not of the saber itself, but a cropped section of Obi-Wan.

The image is grainy and hard to see detail because the camera was so far away from the Saber. But there was a lot of sunlight and the Saber is nice and bright.

I believe if you look at the area I circled, you will see the inside of the clamp showing through the clear plastic bubble strip.

I know the frosted one is translucent, not opaque, but I don't think it a photograph like this you would see the inside of the clamp at all. From as far away as the photographer was, all you would see is white-looking plastic.

If the Tunisia saber really had a clear bubble strip (with flat-sided bubbles) and the Chronicles saber really had a frosted bubble strip (with round-sided bubbles), does’t that support the theory that these really are two different props - not merely one prop with the same parts assembled differently (minus a washer and plus cotter pins and tiny screws)?

(Well, I guess they could have replaced a lost or broken bubble strip, but I just wanted to point out this possible difference between the Tunisia and Chronicles versions of this saber.)

I guess the cat's out of the bag for the bubble strip.

I don't have too many references for the Tunisia saber, but I think there's a good chance the bubble strip on the Chronicles and the Tunisia are actually one and the same.

That said, some parts (grenade, clamp, and booster) are most likely different between the two hilts.
