The Ultimate Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi Real Vintage Parts Lightsaber Group

Anyone have any tricks on how to bore out vintage resistors?

Here are some pics from a tutorial I made about 10 years ago. Sorry for the small pics, the old RPF photo hosting site required photos of a certain size only.

I still convert my transistors the same way.

Lately it's been operational amplifiers

I suppose that's possible. However, we shouldn't confuse the function of the device with the name. TO-# is "transistor outline" which just specifies the physical form factor of the device. Whatever they put inside the guy is separate from that, and indicated by the model name stamped on the part itself. So you can have a TO-39 shape that's an op amp or a transistor based on the specific part number.

This page is a good reference to the case sizes, but it still seems like the 39 is the best option. I'm guessing any height differences we're seeing is due to the size of the washer, which is yet unknown for certain. The 46 package seems very short.

James Kenobi made a wooden jig, cut a strip out of it and ran a bolt through it to tighten the wood. Can't recall too much, but it worked to clamp the canister in place. This was with a tall can though. I used the sharpest drill bit I could find, vice grips and a drill press. It was a nightmare, maybe a lathe could do it?

Holy crap!! That is epic!! He’s got them squeaky clean!!!

Well guys... I’ve decided to take the plunge and start the real parts journey.

I was able to Purchase a male balance pipe off Chris (Teecrooz) and then sent it to Scott for gender reassignment surgery

It is absolutely incredible what Scott did to this.. I am totally blown away...

I seriously never thought this would be a possibility, and now it is. I’m going to document this journey, so here’s some before and afters and a video of my journey

Wow! I'm looking forward to see your progress! I'm really excited for you!

Holy cow, what an incredible first part to start out with! The balance pipe was the one part I thought would always be the replica on my Obi-Wan saber. However, like you, I say thank God for teecrooz! The dude is a saint! scottjua did a magnificent job on the conversation. & his weathering was a fantastic gift.
Enjoy this journey, my friend. It's a deep rabbit hole, & your wallet is gonna scream, but my God is it worth it in the end.

Loved the bike tour. & the Marty McFly style ride, with the truck, cracked me up!

Congratulations, Halliwax! What an amazing piece to start the journey. Phenomenal craftsmanship by Scott, as always.

Excellent work Scott and welcome to the party halliwax.

I tossed my snipped male into a camp fire over night right after I received it and that completely finished the female look, took all the shininess away, like makeup.
