The Ultimate Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi Real Vintage Parts Lightsaber Group

Holy smokes! That is just gorgeous. Your grenade is PRISTINE, looks so good. There's a bunch in here I'd love to ask you about, if you'll permit some Obi-ANH newbie questions. First, how on earth can you fit an FX install in one of these?!? Is the blade just sitting in the BP with no retention mechanism?

Also, regarding windvanes - does anyone do anything to secure them in place, or prevent the ring from sliding off the turbine section? Or are those just always floating too?
There's plenty of space inside the grenade and under the clamp if you use roman's cage between the grenade and the booster. I've made my crystal chamber to fill the whole grenade though, so I can't use a 18650 battery unless I rework the chamber to be about 1cm shorter. But first I'll try with one of those smaller batteries (forgot what's their type, but they are also 3.7v)

As for the blade it is held in place with ring magnets and a little bit of press-fit into the BP. That is secure enough for the way I intend to use it.
Feel free to PM for details on the fx install.

That is actually more usual than you might think, depending on the
I remember thinking a a while ago if I were to ever sell I’d just part it out which I agree in a lot of cases your better off doing. I think also people enjoy making there own. With the Obi it’s just found parts lined up together with a bolt where as a lot of props that’s not the case. The easiest prop to build and the easiest to take apart.

I actually caution against using the Prop Store auction as a tent pole for pricing.

Prop Store is typically the go to for screen used props and that’s the type of collector that they attract and whom usually bids in these auctions. I don’t think it was the correct forum to sell a real parts Obi since essentially it’s a fan built replica with no provenance to the film whatsoever.

It was also a bit of an odd auction in that the Qui Gon stunt hilt didn’t sell and the Obi and Anakin stunts only sold for the min asking prices. I would have bet money that they all would have fetched six figures each.

Personally I think they would have been better off to have sold it on eBay if the seller wanted to maximize their return or even on here. Though I guess the benefit of doing it on Prop Store would be to avoid any potential issues with flaky bidders.

For what the seller gets - yes, but for a reference to the current market value it does not really matter that much where it was sold (as long as it is an open auction).

I think it's fair to say that the only people in the world who are serious about getting a real parts Obi are the ones who follow this thread actively. So everybody knew well in advance to register and bid (even if the "regular" prop store customers might not be that interested in something like this).

Few shots of my pretty much completed build, Bubble strip is replica, Not had the courage to rip my Exactra 20 up yet, Also have some better ME transistors to fit! But shes pretty much there, A real treasure of a prop to own i must say

If I had to guess I'd say something 3D printed based off accurate dimensions for a stunt/belt hanger. Maybe a machined one for hero shots. Maybe even a Roman.

Probably something less heavy for a belt hanger. From what I remember in ANH Alec hand some hard time with it - always supporting his belt with one hand or directly grabbing the saber when he was running around. I've always wondered how long would it take for the D-ring to cut through the plastic cube of the handwheel under such intensive use.

Actually, is there any information that suggests they will use the original design ? Makes more sense to use Ewan's own from the prequels , right? Or maybe something in-between with some Disney creative freedom thrown in like the TFA graflex - so fans will have to buy the new merchandise?

In Rebels they used a 3D model that was obviously based on an accurate ANH Obi.

I'd be pretty surprised if they gave him a totally new design or something based off his saber from Ep I or II. Maybe a hybrid between the ROTS and ANH hilts.

I really like that. I’ve always wanted the wooden display chest from ANH to house my Obi. How does everyone display there’s?
Thanks man it was only $25 on sale from $50. I figured for being glass and wood with a mirror back and the whole top just lifts off a base it was a great deal. It’s not bad looking either. The online one I was looking at was around $150 and I’m not sure I would have been any happier. I was messaging Emiliano Carrillo on Facebook he got one first and showed me and I was all in on the idea.

Hi guys! I'm brand new to Club Obi Wan. I've mostly been a lurker on this thread, but finally have a complete all-original parts hilt. Here it is!
