The Smugglers Room - Star Wars Themed Prop & Rec Room

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -I NEED YOUR HELP!?!?!?!?

perhaps use both in strategic places as contrast?

either way I think, as it's been said, a matte finish on everything would work best.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -I NEED YOUR HELP!?!?!?!?

I like the weathering on the right sample as well. I think you nailed it nicely there.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -I NEED YOUR HELP!?!?!?!?

Definitely the right. The one on the left is a little overdone and looks fake while I'd say the right one looks like appropriately weathered metal. :thumbsup

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -I NEED YOUR HELP!?!?!?!?

I definitely agree with the 'less is more' principle :thumbsup

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -I NEED YOUR HELP!?!?!?!?

Go with the right. It looks like it was completed. The left one looks incomplete with the "sprayed" weathering.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -I NEED YOUR HELP!?!?!?!?

I like the one on the right. Some sides of the room might look better with the lighter color though, don't be afraid to mix your walls. I agree 100% that less is more, you don't have to weather every panel. Make sure some of your weathering goes in different directions on some panels to simulate the randomness. You've got a very sharp eye, so you'll be able to figure out what looks best. Decide which panels get the most "traffic" and use. In your poker area, you might want to go lighter. Definitely darker in the movie area.

I just had a thought. What are you planning on doing about lighting the different areas? That might play a bit into your decision. Work lights brighter than room lights sorta thing.

Thank you DS, this is well thought out, and I like where your heads at. Its great advice, I really appreciate it.

The lighting is coming from a large mix of devices:

- I will have the large poker table lighting in the room center, but that is just for the table. It will however, have some special up lighting from it that will accent the ceiling slightly.

- I will additionally have 6 small in-ceiling lights on a separate dimmer. These will be mostly for times when I need more light in the room.

- Flashing Lights: I plan on several of these, pretty much everywhere, but these are mostly for decor.

- Each panel on the south wall will have a small light at the top, to help illuminate the panel, and then another small light at the base that will cast light along the floor. It will look cool, and offer light along the floor to see.

- Finally, the display cabinet will have lighting, for the replicas and collection.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -I NEED YOUR HELP!?!?!?!?

You should add some flashing/spinning red "emergency" lighting you can turn on with a switch. Bonus points if you have a burglar alarm and hook it up to that.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -I NEED YOUR HELP!?!?!?!?

The one on the right definitely. It really makes the realism factor pop out. And just a suggestion, if you want some of it dirtied up a bit, maybe some oil type leakage under/around some of the plates or round extruding greeblies.

Agreed, thank you.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -I NEED YOUR HELP!?!?!?!?

Yeah the right has a more natural look to it. If you want to use a lighter color you might try spraying it just one color like metal and then weathering it with a wash or spraying on some black paint and rubing it off real quick to give it a weathered look.

What an epic build, everything looks awesome! I can't wait to see it all finished.

That's a great idea, I was hoping to go with light on the roof so it didn't feel so closed in, but now I think I like the idea of it feeling a littl closed in and tight, gives it more of a ship feel.

thank you very much.

Are you kidding DS, without you folks on this site, I wouldn't have even been able to get started, let alone solve some of the issues I have ran across during the process. I value so many opinions from members here, and the kind comments as well as the encouragement keep the project going. I'm honored at the compliments, thank you very much!

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room

Just a small update, I spent most of the day yesterday repainting the ceiling panels, but I did manage to get a start on this guy!
