The Smugglers Room - Star Wars Themed Prop & Rec Room

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room - First panel installed

Words cannot describe the jealousy I feel when I look at these pictures. I want that room for my own. AMAZING work. It's going to be fantastic when it's finished.

I'm humbled, thank you very much!

Besides you gonk droid how many projects are sitting on hold awaiting the completion of this one. I know you have a couple on hold. the room is progressing nicely cant wait for the finish.

-GZH

well . . . i count 8 - 10 projects waiting:cry:cry:cry The truth is, and this may be a little too obsessive, but here it is:

This whole mess started when I decided to build a Death Star Poker table, then I decided that I needed 1/3 size R2's as drink tables, then my wife said I should convert the Foosball table to match the theme, and I basically started all of those projects because i could not contain myself. Shortly after I said, "Wait, I need a room for all this stuff" so I set everything aside, and thought, "I can finish this room in a month" :behave:behave:behave

So here I am, knee deep in MDF and Greebles. But I am very excited at the prospect of having an interactive room for all these obsessions!

Thank you for watching the build, and the nice comments!

just WOW!! love it, and yes, i too am blown away by the almost obsessively neat cable work :D i dream of one day having cables that tidy. mine are so messy and tangled they became self away last thursday and have since taken one of my children hostage :(

Yeah, I am a bit obsessive compulsive when it comes to my wire managment. I have worked in the AV industry for 13 years now, and if there is one thing that I must have its . . . CLEAN CABLES!!! :confused :confused :confused

But thank you, I take pride in it, and its nice to see others compliments as well.

yep, either you do it the right way, or you do it twice.

I've done a variety of tech (including custom home AV installs) for 10 years or so. I'm currently working at a college and in a few years i'm going to pull my retirement and then run my own AV/tech company, where, I'll be working handy solo thank you very much.

I'm one of those old school sticklers and i've done too much time working for companies where I had to clean up some ex punk install techs work. not that there's anything wrong with punks lol, just they all seem to end up in the install industry for some reason.

anyway, do it right once and never have to do it again. time is money.

Almost?

I think this is way past obsessive... I think if you look up the definition of obsessive compulsive behavior, there will be a photo of that rack wiring.

It's amazing.

You know the sad thing? I just purchased an HDMI switcher, and a couple new devices that have to be added, now I'll tell you, i planned for expansion, but because I can't stand it when when wiring doesnt look good, i have a feeling I will be re-doing a majority so the new components look right.:cry:cry:cry

Also, I have a pretty massive Crestron distrobution for keypads, lights, and touchpanels. The hardware for powering it and such is pretty cool looking, flashing green and red lights, stuff like that, and my wife said, "You should move that into the room in front of the racks, it will match the decor, and look impressive!"

God bless her but . . . :cry:cry:cry:cry:cry now i have to do it! :cry:cry:cry

by the way, thank you guys for the compliment!

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -VIDEO TOUR 1

I've been asked several times now for a video tour. So I took this tonight, my apologies for the rough cut, all I have is a phone to take the video with for now, but hopefully it gives you an idea. Thanks for watching!

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -VIDEO TOUR 1

Great vid!!!! Even the ceiling is getting the treatment! The end of the vid cracked me up - "just a few more things to do"... :)

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -VIDEO TOUR 1

Thanks for the video. Just a really cool room.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -VIDEO TOUR 1

Fuzzual,

I like the video; it tells more than the pictures do.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -VIDEO TOUR 1

Thanks all, I'll try and make the next video a little better.

I worked a fair amount this weekend, even with the 100+ degree weather. (it makes the paint dry a bit slower)

I think the wires and buttons really put a sense of realism to the panels. Look great and coming together nicely.

WHOA!!!!!!!!!!! FAN-DAM-TASTIC!!! First... you're greeblie mad, SIR!!! You've definately nailed the greeblie process. :) Second... LOVE IT!

Isn't it a great feeling when you begin see it all come together? You stand back and say "Whoa... I did that?!"

So you were suffering from the heat as well? I was right there with ya. And yes... paint does not like the intense heat. I have been using two primers. One is a sandable primer/filler (which is the best) that LOVES the heat and dries within minutes... and the other HATES the heat. I wind up having to take the part inside to dry and it usualy takes 24 hours.

Those panels are fantastic! Brilliant. Keep going! :)
