The Smugglers Room - Star Wars Themed Prop & Rec Room

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -Update 6/24/12 Lots of Pics!

Those stripes really complete the Star Wars look! It screams Falcon or Death Star. :thumbsup

Agreed, the stripes are instantly recognizable. And the suggestion by SofaKing of using the pin striping from the automotive place is perfect fo r this.

I think the wires and buttons really put a sense of realism to the panels. Look great and coming together nicely.

Thank you, they do give it a cool "used universe" look right? I hope the whole room looks that way.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -Update 6/24/12 Lots of Pics!

Agreed.

This is looking so nice!

Keep those progress pucs coming :thumbsup

Thank you sir, I will certainly keep them coming.

WHOA!!!!!!!!!!! FAN-DAM-TASTIC!!! First... you're greeblie mad, SIR!!! You've definately nailed the greeblie process. :) Second... LOVE IT!

Isn't it a great feeling when you begin see it all come together? You stand back and say "Whoa... I did that?!"

So you were suffering from the heat as well? I was right there with ya. And yes... paint does not like the intense heat. I have been using two primers. One is a sandable primer/filler (which is the best) that LOVES the heat and dries within minutes... and the other HATES the heat. I wind up having to take the part inside to dry and it usualy takes 24 hours.

Those panels are fantastic! Brilliant. Keep going! :)

Thank you very much. Yes, the long hours of work are starting to pay off, and the fun stuff is finally here. I have a fair amount of boring work ahead, but at least I am getting some final results up.

The heat is tough, but I bought a swamp cooler for the garage, I am sure that will help.

Thanks again!

B,

What are you using to adhere the greeblies to the panels?

B,

Every method possible:lol:lol:lol

thats a joke, but also not. I am using; screws (all sizes), Gorilla glue, Hot glue (I use this alot actually as it works really well, Super Glue, Liquid Nails, etc.

Basically I don't have one type of material, it just depends on what I am working with :confused

that's vague, but I hope it helps/

Not at all... Sorry about that... I should have been more specific. I was wondering what type glue you were using... Sounds like we're on the same page. :)

I love this thread and really appreciate the progress pics. A

Amazing work on keeping the common look and feel. Not an easy thing to do when you have buckets of random stuff!

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -Update 6/24/12 Lots of Pics!

hello everyone, i need your opinions :confused :confused :confused

I am working on the paint process of the room, and this is where I get concernd that I may ruin the look by a bad choice in paint. So, the image below shows 2 variations of the style i was thinking along with the choice in color.

I am leaning toward the right panel, with possibly a few more highlights, as it doesn't look so "Sprayed" what are your thoughts? Keep in mind, I originally was going with a lighter color so the room didn't feel so closed in, but then i thought, "Its a ship for crying out loud, it should feel a bit tight?"

Any other suggestions are totally welcome as well, maybe a different grey or other images you may have. Thank you all!!!

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -I NEED YOUR HELP!?!?!?!?

The darker the better for me.

Especially in a media room where reflections from the screen on anything in the room is distracting when watching a movie.

thanks Philip, I agree. What about the weathering above (on the right) does it need more you think, or would this be about the correct amount. I don't want to overdo it.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -I NEED YOUR HELP!?!?!?!?

First of all, awesome project :)

Second, I'd think the right one is the best.

Thank you Zypressq, i appreciate the compliment and the opinion. I just want to get this right . . . don't want to have to do it again:sick

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -I NEED YOUR HELP!?!?!?!?

With weathering less is always more, over do it and you just lose the realism of it. I personally think you have a good balance on the piece on the right.

Loving the build though mate, fantastic idea of a themed room and I look forward to the next update.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room -I NEED YOUR HELP!?!?!?!?

Hey B

Definately Darker... The roughed up marks look more natural compared to the spray. I dont think you need more weathering... If this was an exterior piece then I would say yes. But since this is essentially an "interior panel" the weathering would only occur on those areas brushed up against, touched, etc... :)

I can see the left panel mounted to the top of a building's exterior or part of a ship.

Good to hear thank you. I have been bothered all week by the "style" on the left, and keep leaning to the right. The darker ceiling will give the room a richer feeling once lighting come in as well. Thank you for the advice!

Right. If anything, you can brush more silver weathering to lighten it up a bit. The more subtle weathering may take more time, but the sprayed-on weathering looks like a Rubie's Costume version of the room, if you catch my drift.

agreed. That's what bothered me all week. It looks fake, or forced. I will go with the technique on the right.

Thanks all for the suggestions.
