Agree with Rebelscum. They are both angled.
To note, I started mine with the PVA glue but it took too long to fill in the 10mm recess and started to weigh too much, so I reverted to the 'builders bog' which would be similar to your dry wall spackel. Worked well but did crack in some small places due to the large area shrinking slighlty when dry. Just needed another touch up, and voila, perfect. Made it easy to get similar swirl marks as the movie prop by moving it around when it was 50% dry.
Yours is coming along nicely. Just try not ot rush it, as it will be the centre piece of your collection.
The colour tones of the carbonite/box/panels/etc is the hard bit as the reference material from both movies is 'all over the shop'.
