The Smugglers Room - Star Wars Themed Prop & Rec Room

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update: 5/13/12)

What are you using for the circular bases? (I've seen it a couple of times on various pieces)

At first thought it reminded me of the mounting bracket for toilets (what gets screwed to the floor and the bolts that hold the toilet down are attached to), but I'm not so sure the more I look at it. Similar, but not perfect I don't think.

You are correct sir!!! My favorite plumbing part for this build, and my Greeblies of choice is the toilet flang! I just can't help it, it works so well for a variety of things. My wife really shakes her head at that one, "toilet parts on my walls" followed by more head shaking. :lol:lol:lol:)

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room (Update: The Door)

. I thought it might even be fun to have a little list of odd things that people could find in the room, "The Smugglers Room Scavenger Hunt!"

I love that Idea that would be so much fun. Its kinda like those great movies you watch over and over again and find something knew each time. Well that's what your room is going to be like for your guest. "Hey is that a stapler next to a toy cop car on your wall?" lol

Looks fantastic! I'll give you the keys to my place to come and complete my project also. Oh, and make sure my wires in my house look as nice as yours!

Great work. Can't wait to see the finale.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room - Back in the Saddle (Update: 6/2/12)

LOVE IT!!! Will you be adding a some pin striping and maybe a little weathering?

If you get a chance... go to Ebay and look up "laptop frame" to find some great and very unusual / cheap parts for your build. :)

Keep going!

well, I'm traveling for the next two weeks, so I won't get a chance to play with this until the end of June:angry:angry:angry

(And thanks to SofaKing for finding the cheap reflectors from Home Depot, they work great!!!!)

But I made decent progress today, and got a pretty good idea of where to go next, and how to proceed. Hope you guys like it. :confused

Holy Hoppin' *****! Finally what I've been waiting for!

Looks AWESOME! :thumbsup

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room - Back in the Saddle With the First Panel

HOLY SHMOLY! That's a lot of greeblies!!!! Nice reflectors!!! ;) You've done a lot of work. Those panels are FANTASTIC! Where are you finding all your parts?

Question... You said you were going to add the striping. But are you going to weather the panels as well? Is so... pics pics pics. :)

Another greeblie for you to consider (if you going for the SW look) would be 1 inch square glass mosaic tiles. I found a pack of 100 on Ebay for 10-12 bucks? They're fantastic! Smooth edges and you can paint them any color you want! I'm going to use a transparent tape to adhere them to the panel and then back light them. I'm hoping that by "frosting" the bottoms they will help spread the light across the tile.

They really are fantastic to work with - and they look almost DEAD on the originals

Again, those panels look great! Time off is good for recharging the batteries and the imagination! :)

Thank you man, I have been waiting too, it seems like for far too long. Just got crazy busy the last couple weeks, and now i have two more weeks away, but after that it will be a crazy push to get the room done by August 11:behave :confused:behave :confused oh brother!!!

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room - Back in the Saddle With the First Panel

@SofaKing, yes I am certainly going to be doing the stripe work on these bad boys, i just didn't have the time to get the stuff today. i am going to the auto parts store at lunch tomorrow though:love

I will be doing a fair amount of weathering, but I won't do that until the panels are all hung on the walls, I want them all to feel consistent, and since there is a million . . . :eek

The glass tiles are great, i will get on ebay tonight, those will work wonderfully.

As far as the Greebles, well, I have been stocking up for quiet some time for this project, and knew I would need ton of them, so here is a sample of my stash:love:love: and i have 4 more tubs just like them:loll

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room - Back in the Saddle With the First Panel

WOW! That's a lot of stuff!

I was thinking... what if you had one panel that was just dirty and rusty? I always loved the scene in a ANH when the hero's exit the trash compactor and the area around the door is a rusty gooey mess! It was those little attention to details that I loved so much!

Trust me man, you will certainly see that here!

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room - Back in the Saddle With the First Panel

That is soooo wesome! Enjoy your travels, we look forward to more updates in May.

Re: The Smugglers Room - Entertainment Room - Back in the Saddle With the First Panel

Bravo! One of the first things that pops up in these types of projects is the lack of greeblies. You are knocking it out of the park.
