Sweet my first time making my costume and first contest to enter, by chance is there a link to all the entrants from last year?

Wow! I may actually have a Male, Female and Child entry done for this! That would be awesome. I started building costume for the first time agin in 20 yrs about a month ago and have the child coatume knocked out. I am working on mine and hers now. I don't know how much of a chance an Iron Man has on here, I have seen the talent! but I will try to flex my brain and make a good one. Here is my child build;

Can we post a build thread before entering the contest or does it need to be secret until after the contest?

can we have best female and then best "scantily clad" female? Just so it's "fair" of course

Haha, won't this make it like EVERY costume contest that goes on during Halloween parties? You know, when someone who puts a ton of time and creativity loses to whichever girl's boobs are hanging out the most? ;)

Hmm, might still be bitter from a contest a few years ago when we had a group of 6 guys and girls as the American Gladiators - pugil sticks and all - and we lost to 2 girls dressed as Fook Me and Fook Yu from Austin Powers after they basically did a strip tease on stage. Ah, well....

But of course I'll want to see the best scantily clad female contest thread. :)

maybe instead of having the entire forum vote ...

a panel of judges selected by the mods and admin, consisting of prop builders, costumers and industry folk?....just an idea

I'm curious about last year... The Biomech costume won by a landslide, with a total of more than 40% of the votes.
I'm not saying it isn't a sweet costume, but it seems to have received a disproportionate amount of the attention. I had only been a member for a few days, and was unaware of the contest at the time. Was there any discussion about that? Why did that one stand so far above all the others?

The voting is public, meaning both members and nonmembers are able to vote. The owner of the biomech, who is still an active member here on the site, did an amazing job of getting the word out and getting his friends to vote. It is no different than you see members doing here in the offtopic when they ask fellow members to vote for their daughter's art project or for their entry into some contest. The voting seems lopsided in his favor because he worked the hardest to get people to vote for him.

Some people get a bit upset about that approach but it is the approach most of the internet has adopted in terms of contests because it encourages entrants to invite other people to the site.

Ok, that's what I guessed. Well done to him in getting the word out, and the costume as well!!

What means store-bought costume?!?

So, if I got a part of my costume from another RPF member or got a belt or boots from someone, because Im not able to make shoes by myself, is it already a "bought" costume?!?

I'm so happy to see the "No store bought costume" rule. That is was got me pissed last year and admit I was a tad overly vocal. Look forward to the entries this year.Hopefully mine will be done in time.

I'm a dad with a teen daughter and we're going to do characters from one movie. What category does that go into?

Also, can I replace our crappy backyard in Photoshop with a frame grab from the movie? Something like this (the costume is not Photoshopped):
