The OT stunt lightsaber blades research thread

Also, for ANH sake, here is an ANH stunt with a brown neck, and damage to the blades.

Also, THE BARBICAN or the ANH Vader Stunt!

I'd like to open up discussion - that theres a metal plug in place of the upper section of graflex socket on the rotj vader saber. Weird, because the lower half is gone too, they might have taken that out when re-fitting it for the wood chop scene. either way, it used to be an ESB stunt correct?

Check this out. Foam grips and all.

Man I've been so busy with life I haven't had a chance to post in a while! Nice find on that pic Tom! You can clearly see foam grips and the shell of a upper graflex! . Someone definitely needs to further inspect the Sansweet "screen used" saber. I've been hitting dead ends in the blade department. I cannot afford a vintage antenna but I firmly believe that it's the right direction to go in.

I don't believe they used wood in the warehouse anymore. It rattles and clacks, and I saw it bend once or twice. We've got a profile too, it gets rather skinny

I mean, it's no Sequel Trilogy short blade :D

Anyways, here's a lightsaber with visible bolts, but I can't make out the Graflex shape, and where the clamp/bunny ears would be. Can anyone else?

And here's Colin with... I think the ANH stunt or the Pipe stunt. it has an endcap whatever it is

I'm here to add more screenshots from Disney+ Empire of Dreams.

a BOLT!!! SO, NOT THE ANH STUNT MAYBE. Long lever?! Was the V2's clamp shared around props?
Screen Shot 2019-12-20 at 11.49.38 PM.png

Different stunt saber, or just different blade?

I'd like to add I noticed that all the sabers clack like wood, rattle and bend. PVC or fiberglass, or some composite for sure

Wow!! I didn’t know empire of dreams was on there too!!!

But this is a huge discovery!!

I still believe the lever is a graflex part we have yet to find.. I doubt the clamps were switched, but if there is 2 long levers this just further proves the V2’s isn’t just some random lever

I bet it was a replacement part available in camera stores. I'm so excited there might be 2!

That is also a very big bolt, I'm thinking similar smaller core. 4 bolts.

Luke's got a long blade on endor!

Hard to make out but looks like the clamp box is intact too..

Damn it, if it were only clearer...

I can watch it again, some of this footage... seeing things move gave clues that one blurry photo couldn't

Its interesting that its stuck at the same angle as the obi wan stunt from ANH. Makes me wonder if THIS is that lever and the V2 was a different one

Could be, I just think they over tighten it, we can do that now with the levers we have, just over tighten and it won’t close all the way

I just have a hard time believing they swap parts, and then put them back on.. not saying I’m right. Just in the history of stuff like this, usually when they take things apart or borrow parts, then never go back on

And to see how complicated it is to take these stunts apart, I don’t think it’s worth it to them

Wish the picture was clearer.. wonder where this stunt is today...

Mini blade, dark underneath, not fully wrapped with tape, and no bolts visible lol

Here's a video from Empire. Now these sound like wood. Coated in reflective material and quite sturdy.

Also, confirmation of that bolt underneath the red button on the back. I have 3 on mine, I picked 3 from the MoM saber because we've seen one on the side, and the back, so i mirrored it like the pipe stunt.

and great rehearsal footage here

V2 or V3 in action here. Poor mark! I'm guessing these are the B@W photo swords. Also you can see how they handle these and guess where the weight is in the handle

Sorry to disagree. These sound very clacky to me, as if the surface was very hard like GRP.

These blades certainly sound different from the other clip & sound more like wood to me but it's hard to tell as they're not hitting woth as much force. Also it looks like Mark's blade has a black stripe - go slow from about 0.09. Certainly looks like there's very little reflective material on it & the base colour is black. (great find by the way (y).)

Agreed. I'm still thinking fishing rod blanks or fiberglass whip antennas or some sort of composite hollow tube

If you listen to that rehearsal clip with headphones..it definitely sounds like 2 fiberglass tube clacking together if you have a couple of fishing poles just tap them together. You will see what I mean

They do sound a little more like fiberglass than wood, in the carbon freezing chamber video.

Thanks for the videos, Tom, I got a big laugh from the dialogue, and thinking to myself how they likely couldn't hear a damned thing on that stage!

Haha me too!

What I meant was they sound more like the wood clack and less like the ROTJ blade rattle.

They dont bend as much in the carbon video

I also have other gut feelings.. I'll get back to y'all on those
